Was grooming Pousse last night - we do a bit each night as she is not completely comfortable with it ;) - and found a strange lump. It's kind of like a mole in a person except it is red and shiny. Couple of millimetres across and slightly raised and it was uncomfy for her when I pressed it :?

She is at vets tomorrow anyway but wondered if any ideas? Last time I had a cat with a lump she died

Hi Soupie,

I wouldn't worry too much about it. My Des gets these sometimes, I think it's where they've overscratched and made a little wound. Or it could be a little infected hair follicle. They normally disappear within a few days, but obviously your vet will be able to put your mind at rest tomorrow.

Is it kind of scabby? If so, Fifi gets these all the time. It doesn't bother her in the least. Darcy gets them too but he scratches them and ends up with a horribly bald patch. I've been told it could be a flea allergy so regular flea-treating is a must.

Hope Pousse is OK and it turns out to be nothing more serious than the above.

No it's smooth raised and sore - no broken skin or scabs :?

She hasn't got fleas at the moment - been treated recently and I comb using a flea comb to check too.

It's kind of wierd - in it's shape it's like a nipple bit they don't have nipples on their back do they

Definitely no nipples on the back! But at least she has a vet visit tomorrow, and he'll be able to see it quickly. Let us know how she gets on! Fingers crossed for tomorrow xx

The way you've described it, it doesn't sound like aything too dramatic. However, it's good that you've a vet visit soon anyway - you can be reassured then.
Good luck

I'm sure it will all be fine Soupie and nothing harmless.

Not all lumps are bad - my Bernard has recently had one removed and it was just fatty tissue in the end..........nothing to panic about.

Let us know how you get on at the vets anyway.

xx

Well it turned out to be an ingrown hair and it got rather nasty but we managed to to bathe it and tease out the hair in question and it is healing over nicely now :)

Thought it sounded something and nothing and just a skin thing - but it's always best to get it checked. You now know what it looks like - if she gets another you won't panic!

Soupie - you must stop waxing Pousse . . . those ingrowing hairs can be SUCH a pain ;)

Seriously - I'm very happy to hear that it's nothing to worry about :-)
