Hi I've literally only just found out about this forum after my vet told me about you after I found an abandoned kitten in a plastic bag....here's the story.

About 18:30 on Monday evening I was walking along the river coming back from my friends house. I was very close to a ditch which, being flood season, was filled with water as well. I had just gone past a black plastic bag when all of a sudden I heard a faint mewing sound.

I shone my torch all around the area to try and see where the noise was coming from and found the bag. Upon opening it I recoiled from a really foul decaying smell, but then a very tiny black kitten popped it's head out and peered at me, mewing piteously! With a gasp of shock, I looked in the bag and found 4 other kittens which were unfortunately dead. Because it was quite cold I had my fluffy warm scarf around my neck. I took it off and wrapped it around the kitten so it could be kept warm and then I dashed back to my home to tell Mum and Dad.

After Mum and Dad had recovered from the shock of the story, Mum called up the emergency vet who told her and me to bring the kitten in, so we did. When we got there we found out the kitten was actually a very healthy little girl. All she had was quite a few fleas on her, but the vet felt she could stay with us (we had become very attached to her by then). The vet gave us a huge tin of kitten formula and showed me how to feed the kitten and told me and Mum to feed her every 3 hours.

So now the little kitten has a very nice new home, away from the danger that she would have been in if I hadn't of been around at the time. Lucie (my other much older cat) has taken too her very well and has actually begun to let the kitten snuggle into her warm fur, so we know she'll be fine with the new addition. Mum's been given special permission to feed the kitten at work, because I go to college, but I feed her all the rest of the time.

I'm sorry to introduce myself with such a tragic/happy story and I also hope to post with more happier things lol. I also have another cat as well who gets on very well with the new little addition.

Take care

Thanks for your wonderful replies. The little kitten is actually a tortoishell because I've just found a few little red flecks all over her fur lol. I will try and take some pictures soon as I can get a new digi-cam lol. my other one broke! I haven't named the kitten yet as I want to see her personality first. My other cat's name is Lucie and she is a Tabby/Tortoishell with white mixed in and also is 14 years old. Lucie has really taken to the kitten as she's let the kitten snuggle into her fur so we know they'll be fine together. Will post more as I get more news of her.

Many thanks for the kind welcome.

Hello and thanks for the other new messages that you have sent. Just thought you might like to know whats been happening with Kitten. Well she's loving her formula and eating very greedily and at the moment has taken to suckling my little finger. When she is eating, she puts her paws onto the kitten bottle feeder and closes her eyes when she sucks...it's sooo cute to watch. She's definately a tortoishell as well as the ginger flecks although small are very apparent lol.
Will give you more updates on Friday as I am going out tomorrow...don't want too but unfortunately I have to lol
Take care

Kitten was fine on the way to college this morning. She came with us so Mum could feed her at work. I'm shattered because I set my alarm to wake me up every 3 hours to feed her (and that took about 30 mins each time lol) and plus I've got college as well lol, but we'll manage. I can't wait for college to finish because I'm heading towards Mum's work straight after so I can see Kitten.
Will give you better update tomorrow evening as I am at college now and I have to go out tonight (double drat!!!!).

Take care for now.

P.S we will be giving her an official naming this coming Sunday...I will tell you what it is going to be then

Due to family circumstances we have had to bring the 'Kitten Naming' forward and annouce our newest members new name tonight! Mum, Dad and Colin all decided it was my choice to choose the name for the kitten and I am very pleased to announce that the kittens name will be.......... *drum roll*.........

MELZA!!!!!

I am going to get her a nice elasticated snap collar and tag tomorrow with her new name on and our phone number so we don't lose her. She is happily purring away on my lap as we speak and we are now going to watch Dancing on Ice - the Skate Off!!!!
