is it possible to teach keanu not to use his claws when playing?

quite often we are trying to stroke him and hes in a playful mood, but he grips your hands with his claws and bites. I know this is normal kitten behaviour, but is there any way to teach him not to put claws on hands? or at least be gentle?

i just dont want to get to him being an adult and still doing it only to realise that i could be nipped it in the bud early if its at all possible!

I would try saying no in a firm but not loud voice and stop stroking him for a moment. The more you do this he should eventually associate the two and hopefully will stop doing it. Good luck.

Oli still does this now and he is 8 months old! When he bites or uses his claws I stop playing or stroking him. He is getting better, so it must be gradually working!!

I think he will grow out of it eventually, after all, he is only a baby! ;)

When you play with your cats, do you use your hands as the toy as it were? Have you considered using the clicker training method? Withholding treats and using them for good behaviour? Bad behaviour met with a sharp OUCH! and walk away?
Just a few thoughts. Hope it helps xxx
