She took some food from my hand today! I'm having ham and cabbage for dinner tonight; took a small piece of ham out with her plate and tin of food this afternoon...held out the ham and she came right up to me, sniffed and took it! Backed off slightly with it in her teeth and then chomped it down! I tried that about 2 months ago with a piece of chicken, but she wouldn't take it from me...a small thing, really, but I feel it's a good sign (for those who don't know, Onyx is a black stray, very very shy and wary of people that I've been feeding)

That's brilliant Eileen, she is gradually gaining more confidence ..... hopefully by Spring she will be purring and rubbing against your legs :D

She certainly knows where to go for her dinner now!:D

Brilliant DM, she is gaining trust everyday, won't be long before she is snuggled up in front of the fire...

Good old Onyx, getting braver by the day:D . You must be chuffed to bits, I know I would be:D .

That's fantastic news Eileen. It can take so long for a frightened animal to show trust again, but once you earn that trust you have it for life, and I think you are well on the way to having that!!

I felt a little guilty giving the ham to Onyx, so offered a piece to Leia...Leia doesn't eat ham, remember, it's "people food ...........so ........she ate it and asked for more! Cats!!!

And this afternoon she came running across the street to her feeding place, and mewed to me in her rusty little voice! That's only the second time she's spoken to me in all these months!!

Mags, pray that the forecast for a really bad ice storm here tomorrow isn't going to be too bad, or I'll be unable to get out to feed her! And she expects her food now! This storm is supposed to start as snow tonight, turn to ice most of Tuesday and then back to snow. And ice means downed power lines: no heat, no Catsey!!! I need good vibes!!!!!!

Oh Eileen, I do hope it's not going to be as bad as the forecast :( make sure you stay warm ......

Is there any way you can leave the porch door open slightly if you see Onyx, maybe if her plate was just inside she may venture in for it :?

dandysmom
12-02-2007, 10:46 PM
I could try that, although she rarely comes to the front yard, and I doubt if the ice and snow is really bad that she'll venture out of where she holes up to stay out of the elements...... If I'm off line for a bit, means no power; not to worry. I wish I had a laptop, could run it on batteries like I do the radio..

Thanks for warning us that the weather will be the reason if you aren't on tomorrow Eileen .......... you know how we'll all worry ;)

Thanks, Mags! I know if a regular just vanishes, people do wonder...and with any luck we won't have any downed trees or power lines; could be worse: those people in upstate New York have had over seven feet of snow....

Mags

7 feet !!! The UK would come to a complete halt if that happened here!! :-D

I'm coming to New York on the first flight!! Think how many snowmen I could build with all of that!!!

dandysmom
12-02-2007, 11:28 PM
Alex, you could build a snow regiment if your fingers didn;t freeze first! The most snow we've ever had here at one time in my memory was 16 inches...when I finally dug out the front walk it reminded me of pictures of the WWI trenches!! But got a snow day out of it, woo hoo...was long before I retired! The City was paralyzed; even our rotten bosses couldn't get in....:-D

Thanks, Fran! If it's just snow, no problems; ice brings down power lines, so please send good vibes! The snow/ice line is so vague as of tonight that they can't really tell exactly what we here in the City can expect...for once I, the snow-hater, is praying for just snow!! Hope to chat tomorrow ........
