As I sit here on this gloomy day
My mind has wandered far away
Back in time, to ages past
Those summer days I thought would last.
Sitting at the window sill
A cat on my lap, lying so still
Drifting clouds in a sky of blue
Peaceful and quiet with nothing to do.
Watching children play midst flowers in bloom
As I sat there in that peaceful room
The sound of laughter filled the air
I wish I was still sitting there
But time passes by so fast
Those summer days never last
So here I sit and watch the rain
And wait for summer to arrive again
