Great news!!

I've just had a text from my friend at Wood Green to tell me that they decided to send bloods away for William's second FeLV test.

They were sent yesterday. I'm not sure how long the results take, but I'll keep you posted.

Yaaaaaaaaaay for William!!

Fingers crossed for William.
If he's OK I would imagine WG wil write up his story and pin it on the front of his pen and, seeing as he is a cuddle-bum, he will soon be swept up by a new loving owner.
Toes crossed too.

Good news!!! I must admit I was very worried for the poor chap, seems like such a lovely cat as well.

I was hatching a plan to claim him and see if my Great Aunt would like him as an indoor only cat ;)

Aww Fran, well done you xxx I never even thought of doing that.
Hugs to Fran and Charlie for fighting Williams corner, hope all turns out well for him. Am seriously praying for a false possitive on the last test.

I'm wondering what the statistics are for false negative results. Does anyone know or have any idea?

Didnt Desley make a post based on the the false negatives/fales possitives taken from the Fab site a while back. I'll see if I can find it.

Thank you Elaine! I have just read this.....

the positive predictive value of an in-practice test for FeLV antigen is quite low, to the extent that more than half of positive results are false positives. This is especially important if a positive result is found in a healthy cat. Therefore it is strongly recommended that a positive screening test should be confirmed by another test, such as immunofluorescence or virus isolation.

Still loads to read yet though!

LOL I got about half way through and then saved it to my favourites for a look later. Found loads of support sites for FeLV kitties along the way and also a check list for owners to use if they are concerned.

OMG - I didn't realise it was such a high statistic. My vet did tell me that false positives happen on in-house tests, but that there are never really false-negatives, unless the test is done too soon. Which is why I have to wait to have Lily tested.
