I just wondered how many people on here give blood?

 I used to but I'm not allowed to anymore, which makes me very angry as I want to give & I know how desperate they are for blood!

I used to give blood quite regularly but every single time I did, I fainted  As a nurse this was rather embarrasing so I stopped going

I hvae fainted too Fran, only on my 1st time & I think it's because I hadn't eaten before going.

I can't give any more because I've had a tranfusion, which is all the more reason for me to want to give something back, but they changed the rules a few years back & anyone who's had a transfusion since 1980 can't give.

I do.
I am embarrassed at the pre-donation questions asked now. It's almost as if a donation is a badge of honour for good behaviour.
I am sometimes annoyed at the (what seem to me) ridiculous reasons for not taking a donation.
Litigious times I suppose .....

It makes me wonder how confident they are at screening the blood etc.

If they don't want my blood because I've had a tranfusion ... what does that tell you about my blood! :?

If I had to go in for elective surgery I would move heaven and earth to try to give a donation before I went in and have it stored just for me, in case I needed it.
I think they don't take if you've had a transfusion just because they know of one past donor who went on to develop CJD. They fear there may be other cases but the chances must be infinitessimally small, as there are only a handful of CJD cases anyway. Sometimes I think we worry too much about the small risks and don't take enough care of the common ones - like insufficient hand-washing in hospitals etc

I used to give regularly, but don't any more because I'm not allowed to because of my medications.
