These are the only two photos I managed to take before the camera's battery gave out. I've put it back on charge, but this is all you get for now.

I know you can only see 3 kittens - the black-and-white one had found a likely nipple on the underside and was covered in siblings

Here we go, some more pictures. I changed the bedding, the purple thing is my top (I let them keep it for now as Sashimi does seem to feel better when there's something in the box that smells of me). Underneath is a fleece that used to be Random's blankie and some kitty pillows. They seem a lot more comfortable!

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Sashimi%20-%20litter/litter003.jpg
I'm hoping the kittens'll have Sashimi's eyes - I absolutely love how pretty and expressive they are!

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Sashimi%20-%20litter/litter004.jpg
Once I started stroking her (she's been getting cuddles all the time, we're so proud of her :-)) she started licking her kittens and purring :smt049

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Sashimi%20-%20litter/litter005.jpg
Wasabi is the little nugget on top of the other 3 :-) He's the smallest, but also the most active (after I moved them to the clean bedding, he crawled all the way to the corner of the box closest to me and Sashimi had to move him back so there'd be space for her to sit down) and definitely the cheekiest :smt049 I adore him already :-D

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Sashimi%20-%20litter/litter006.jpg
And here you can see Wasabi's little white toes :smt049

The kittens seem a little more charcoal than black, depending on the light. They're all very gorgeous, at any rate, and soft as satin. I love their crinkly little ears!

I'll try to get some pictures of them when Sashimi's not in the box, tomorrow. I've been taking all my cues as to what's ok from her, so we'll see if she's ok with me taking pictures of them alone or not :-) I expect no trouble, but I can't make any promises either!

Hope you all enjoy :-D

Thanks all :-)

Hippie's gone to help a friend of ours who hasn't got a car buy a chest freezer, so I decided my time alone would be well spent here showing you a few more pictures. Unfortunately I haven't taken any really recent ones - I'm not even sure when these are from  but as they all opened their eyes I won't be able to take pictures of them for a bit (and I asked in the health forum how long I have to shield them from the light for, anyway).

Speaking of which, I honestly thought opening their eyes would be a gradual process, but came downstairs yesterday morning and cleaned out the litterbox (they were sleeping when I started) which is next to their box... Then looked fondly over at them only to find Noel staring intently in my general direction

Cleaning out a litterbox in the dark is a bit of a chore, by the way, can't recommend it

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Sashimi%20-%20litter/litter009.jpg
Wasabi being our little runaway :-) As you can see he's the smallest, but not by much, and he's also the explorer! Even when his eyes were still firmly closed, he was always the one trying to get into every little corner :-D

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Sashimi%20-%20litter/litter010.jpg
Sashimi being the wonderful mum she is... I've been giving her some occasional catmilk as she's always ravenous, but we're basically feeding her on demand. She got a toy elephant that squeaks when it's shaken on a string, for Christmas, so that'll come in handy when the kits are killing everything they can get their little paws on!

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Sashimi%20-%20litter/litter013.jpg
Sometimes they just look like a bundle of piglets  They're absolutely adorable :-)

Hope you enjoyed!

I just had to share this one. The upside-down black and white little monkey is, of course, Wasabi :-)

I got some pictures of him and the other kitten we're keeping, too...

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Cats/kitten002-1.jpg
Wasabi.

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Cats/kitten001-1.jpg
Wasabi again... They all look pretty groggy!

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Cats/kitten001-2.jpg
The little girl, I'm thinking now of calling her Miruku (means milk), but I haven't run it past Hippie yet ;)

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Cats/kitten002-2.jpg
And here you can see the little spot under her chin :-D

After I took pictures of those two, Sashimi went into the box and started nursing them so I left them alone... But as you can see from the first picture, they're all growing like mad and doing very well :-) They're very alert now and earlier I saw one (no idea which one ) twitch his or her ear when I made a noise... I don't know how hearing develops in kittens, but it was the first time I noticed one twitching its ear :-)

Fran

Awww Snoof, they adaorable and growing sooo quickly! I am glad you have decided to keep two. Two are so much more fun than one and are company for each other ;)

Snoof
04-01-2007, 02:16 PM
Absolutely Fran, but I wanted to be sure Hippie was ok with that. I definitely don't think it's ever a good idea to get an animal (or keep one as the case may be) if it's got a chance of causing resentment - not good for the people and not good for the animal(s) in question, either!

But the man is an angel, he told me it's my decision and he'll be happy and love them no matter what... Given he's not really a cat person (or an animal person at all really) but treats Sashimi with so much love and care, I feel we're all really blessed :smt007

You'll really enjoy having the two together Snoof. Mine still make me alternately smile and awwwww as they play or cuddle together. As of now no 'sibling rivalry' issues, so am trusting there won't be any.
Kittens are just lovely - bet you feel you can hear them grow and develop

ellenlouise

sounds fantastic and I would defintly keep two as I just love having my two who are now nine weeks old. Can I also say what fabulous names you chosen they are really lovely and unusual.

Snoof
04-01-2007, 02:54 PM
Indeed DM, I can  And sometimes they suddenly decide to be very vocal (usually if they get hungry while Sashimi's eating) and then I can definitely hear it :smt044

Ellenlouise, thanks for the compliment :-) I think it'll also be better for Sashimi since I know exactly how annoyed a grown cat can get with a kitten  At least with the two of them, they'll keep each other entertained!

It's that time again... They're starting to walk (although they're still very wobbly!) and before too long I reckon they'll be everywhere (luckily they're confined to the backroom/kitchen for now).

These were taken with the digital camera:

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Sashimi%20-%20litter/2007-01-12/camera/013.jpg
First of all, the gorgeous mother... She's just an amazing girl, and we're very proud of her. She's incredibly well-behaved!

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Sashimi%20-%20litter/2007-01-12/camera/004.jpg
Wasabi'd started clawing at the box sides... He's our little explorer.

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Sashimi%20-%20litter/2007-01-12/camera/006.jpg
Here he is, next to his sister (the one we're not keeping). I adore his little toes!

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Sashimi%20-%20litter/2007-01-12/camera/009.jpg
Speaking of sisters, the kitten being viciously attacked in this picture is the one we are keeping... It's hard being a kitten!

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Sashimi%20-%20litter/2007-01-12/camera/010.jpg
But not to worry... She had her revenge!

The next set of pictures was taken on my brand new camera phone...

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Sashimi%20-%20litter/2007-01-12/phone/001.jpg
Snoozing merrily on... This one's the wallpaper on my phone, too, unsurprisingly!

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Sashimi%20-%20litter/2007-01-12/phone/003.jpg
In this one you can see spotty ghost markings... I do wonder what lurks in Sashimi's ancestry!

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Sashimi%20-%20litter/2007-01-12/phone/004.jpg
And speaking of 'Shimi, here she is again, showing off her lush coat. I know it seems like she's always on the table  But honestly, we just tend to leave them to it when she's feeding the kittens.

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Sashimi%20-%20litter/2007-01-12/phone/008.jpg
And lastly, a family portrait from after we moved them into her basket (as you can see, they got to take their pillows and blanket along, and nobody was overly fussed about it). The sides of the box they were in are fairly high, so Sashimi would feel secure in it (and of course the little trollop decided she'd feel more secure on the carpet next to my chair  ), but they're beginning to explore more and we don't want them to be held back by the box they're in.

Hope you guys enjoy :-)

Edit: The basket is in the same place the box was in - we just moved them from the box into the basket, not all about the house!

Oh, they already are, Fran... But pretty soon there'll be no escaping them!

I'm so glad we're keeping two - I'm really looking forward to watching them grow up. I think they'll both be gorgeous as adults, but I miss having a tomcat (neutered though he will be!) and I'm really looking forward to having one again. They're so lumpy and cozy

On Wednesday we're going to give them their very first own taste of wet food... I wonder how it'll go! I'm going to spread some newspaper sheets on the floor before I put the saucer down, because I expect there'll be quite a mess :-D

Thanks DM :-)

Edit: Whilst cooking the other night, Hippie gave Sashimi a bit of chicken... She dropped it (she was in the box at the time, some of the kittens were nursing) and it nearly got stolen right from under her nose! He said she only got it back cause she's so much bigger than they are

Today's are mostly of Sushi, because she's been exploring a lot and coming out of the basket (well, out from behind the basket where they've now decided they want to live - I think Wasabi's fallen in love with Hippie's old skateboard ) on her lonesome to trundle around the dining room!

http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l141/snoofn3c8/Sashimi%20-%20litter/2007-01-16/camera/005.jpg

You should come for coffee sometime - see if your shoelaces survive

At the moment they're still spending the majority of their time in (or behind) the basket. Every once in a while one or two of them venture out - we've had as many as 3 out as once (Sushi, funnily enough, was the one who stayed in that time) and as few as just one.

At least once a day we hear the pitterpatter of little feet on the laminate flooring (and boy do they look funny, especially Kobu who just can't get his head round the concept of "slippery")... But the vast majority of the time they're still staying in. Sashimi's tried a few times to get them to follow her, but they get distracted and go do something else, and by the time one of them reaches where she wanted them to go it's time to gather them all up again, go back to the nest and lick them clean while they nurse.

But they're growing like possessed - even Random's noticed they get bigger every day :-) And we've pretty much decided to keep all of them... We've just gotten attached to all four, plus I keep thinking of Ninja and Dishrag (my old cat who got thrown out of a car) and worrying that someone who might seem nice would be mean to them somewhere down the line... So we'll just have five cats.

It's a hard life... ;)

Not to mention Sashimi herself, who's started calling again and is being a right pain in the backside - we just call her a trollop and have a laugh about it - and most of all we're very careful she doesn't get out.
