Hi there

As all of you probably know Trixie and Trinity are coming home today early than expected but the breeder seems sure they are ready and she is very trusting and does love her animals so I am a bit more confident now.

They are 6 weeks old and are big fat kittens. We will be going early evening today so hopefully all will be well in our household tonight any advice in settling them in would be helpful.

I am going to get some kitten milk today and put it next to their water to give them a bit of extra boost while they are still young.

Wish me the best of luck. I am taking from the breeder the blanket that i gave her originally when we first met so they know the smell. Some of the food she has been feeding them and some of the litter from the tray.

Also I was wondering should I put collars on them straght away or not?

I am very worried. As you can tell.

Glad the day has finally come to collect them - bet your bursting at the seams!

I would just give them water, milk is heavy on their little tummies & water is all they need.

Good luck.

Oh & I'd give them a few days to settle then introduce the collars.

I'd be inclined to keep them confined to just one room for a day or two until they find their feet. I wouldn't give kitten milk either, if they are weaned then they should be well used to drinking water. I agree with Smudgley re the collars, let them settle in first - they have a lot of change to cope with. Have loads of fun and don't forget some piccies ;)

Ok no kitten milk or collars I will make sure we don't do that then lo.. Also we were planning on keeping them in their room for a day or two or for however long it takes them to settle anyway so at least I was on the right track there. They have 30 toys now god knows how i gt that many, two beds, and a cardboard box that ive made into a little fun house, also they have their essentials litter tray food bowls etc... etc.. So I think I am ready. I am llike a nesting mum at the moment oh says keep wondering around arranging things.

As I said in my other thread thankyou all for being so kind and friendly. I really am grateful.

I can't add anything to what Smudgley and Fran have said above except............ lucky, lucky you!! :-D

Your concern over the care of the little ones shows that you will make a great mum for them. You are doing just fine....... when they are here just sit back, relax and enjoy the delights of owning kittens, I'm sure you won't be disappointed!;)

Good luck for later!:D

The weeks seem to have gone so very fast, how lovely kittens in the house. Only one thing to add be careful kittens are so tiny and so fast before you know it they are under your feet.

Hey again Sorry I am confusing myself and probably all of you.

We picked them up and and they slepts the whole way in the car. Not a peep out of them which was lovely. They are so small and lovely.

Trinity came bounding out of the carrier as soon as the door was opened and explored everywhere. She didn't eat till this morning and she slept right next to my head she has already learnt to get up on the bed and now sleeps on there. She is very needy at the moment and crys to tell you she wnts more food or needs the loo or wnts to be stroked to sleep. She sleeps then waked up goes mad and plays with trixe and then eats poops and back to sleep. We had an accident on the paper but from then on she has been going in the litter tray.

Trixie was a bit more nervous and ate nearly a whole bowl of food before she followed trinity on to the bed and slept with her above my head. She has learnt how to climb up my trousers which i am trying to teach isnt a good thing. They are so small and tiny but oh so lovely so glad we have them picture to come soon when OH gets back.

At the moment they are running around underneath me I love the sound of there little feet. I think they are in their eliment. They love all there toys and have slept in their bed which I am glad about. The central heating has packed in so I have dotted hot water bottles around the room but they have decided mum is best to snuggle up to when we are cold. Sorry for long post :-)

Aww, they sound like they are doing well, and i can't wait to see pics, but I dont think anything of the breeder allowing kittens to go at 6 weeks old, no reputable person would do that, however well they are doing, there is the behavioural things they pick up after 6 weeks old that they will now miss out on.

Thankyou for your concern I agree that it was very early for them but I was happy with my decsion and the kittens seem to be very happy and they are learning alot from each other.

Thankyou everyone picture coming soon just trying to get Oh to email them to my compueter at school. He is kitten sitting today so he is the lucky one why i am here being bored.:D

The socialisation they get between 7 and 9 weeks old Smudgely, learning things like 'no' from their mum (ie with weaning).

The socialisation they get between 7 and 9 weeks old Smudgely, learning things like 'no' from their mum (ie with weaning).

That's debatable & new recent studies have shown in dog behaviour (I don't know if the same applies in cat behaviour, but I guess so) this may not be true. IE that by the age of 6+ weeks the mother is spending little social time with the babies. So questionable just how much she does teach them.

Not disagreeing with you, just think it's not as important as some people may think.

What is very important without any doubt is the socialisation they get in the early stages of life & I think what they are exposed to in the early weeks is much more important than what their mom teaches them.

Anyway I'm sure we all have agreed that 6 weeks is early to leave your mommy - but I've seen many hand rears that manage life with no apparent problems.

Thats interesting actually, as I just found out yesterday from someone at work that they are saying it is better younger with puppies (I can't fully remember what she said). I might do some research when I am off work to see if it is the same in cats. But one of the main things is them realising boundaries, which is what she teaches them with weaning. And what they learn from play fighting - which obviously isn't an issue here cos they are still in a pair, but it doesn't always work like that. Hand rears are completely different anyway though.
