How much are you folks paying for this? Its £37.94 at our vets (I think thats what they said) and with Moose being 6mths tomorrow, his time approaches, perhaps in the new yr. Just wondering what others are charging nowadays. Wiggy was the same price, but it was under a year ago so I expect it would be.

I think it it is a little less than that at our vets Dawn...does that price include the newer, safer anaestheitic (can't remember the name of it)? If it does then I think that it is reasonably good value

I paid £86 to get Felix done a few weeks ago - that was him getting neutered and getting his blood tested to make sure he was alright to go under the anaesthetic

WOW! Thats a lot! Was Felix young, was there a need for pre-op bloods, do you think its a money grabbing tactic?

wow I wish we had these vets here. I totally think we get way overcharged for vet care - especially at my vets!

Dawn, why would you feel guilty going to a pet vacc clinic? I've never had a male cat of my own, so not had to pay for a castration.

Felix is only about 3 years old. I totally think its a money grabbing tactic - it was Gordon that took him in and he said he felt pressured to take the extra tests - almost as if "if you really love your cat you would"

Agree with Dawn, wondering why the vets felt the need to do pre-op bloods for such a routine op. :?

Those are good prices Dawn, I am getting the girls spayed shortly but would worry like crazy going to a "new" practice even if that was all they did - does that make sense? although similar to you going the Doctors then to see a suregon who specalizes for your Op.

Emm thats expensive isn't it? why did he need the blood tests? although they tested Cleo before her Op start of this year but that was because she was poorly 23 years previously when she was spayed but anthestic has improved leaps and bounds since then plus her kidney's and age etc was the other reason.

And in answer to your orginal question Dawn can't recall how much I paid for Oz to be done all those years ago. :)

Smudgely. I just feel like I'd be betraying them after all they have done for my pets, silly isnt it, and they needn't know, Moose has never been to them and they dont know I have him. Ill rethink. Thanks all, and Kazz, Im not surprised you dont remember!
Dawn.

I think I would feel guilty too though Dawn, as if I were betraying them almost. Odd isn't it.

You mean betraying your usual vets to go to the others for neutering.... I see what you mean, but I would be going to the PVC if I were you. ;)

Kazz

Dawn where is your local PVC (sounds like a 60's coat) not a vets surgery :) where did you find out about it I would be interested as I am getting the girls spayed and that is almost 1/2 the price I was quoted and with the two????

I can understand where you are coming from Dawn, been with my vets 12 years, she has looked after all my animals, I know she is dearer than other vets, but couldn't go anywhere else....She knows me, as well as the animals...

Mine would be Willenhall, they also have surgeries at Wolverhampton, Hall Green and Yardley.

They are good prices!

I just paid £55 for my bunny to be neutered and you could get it done for £25!!!

Are they only in your area???

There's a " pet vaccination clinic" at Hopwood / Wythall Kazz (just off J2 M42)

a young lady set up there a good few years ago now to encourage people to vaccinate & neuter their pets & was charging much less than half the price of others & there was complete uproar & all the vets were going mad - saying she couldn't do this - but she could & she did & it made people think that actually they would be responsible & neuter & vaccinate their pets. The branch then opened other practices (I think it's a different one to the ones Dawns talking about - but sounds like a simialr thing)

Interesting fact - did you know it costs less than a quid to manufacture a vaccine. :?

Our vets run nurse clinics for routine vaccs, nail trimmings, dental checks etc, etc

Dog and cat boosters (Exc Leukaemia) are £15 and £20ish I think if you have the Leukaemia too.

I paid £5 for Timmy to be done but we had a voucher from the CPL. Normally it's £25 with the vets I use. Okay they are a 20min drive away but for the prices they charge I'd rather travel 20mins than walk 5 mins down the road to vets who are money grabbing twerps and can't tell the difference between a dogs tail and it's head

I can't remember exactly but I think it was just over £100 for both boys for chop, microchip and stronghold.

To get Broxi done 3 months ago was £13, but I had a voucher from the CPL, without it it would have been £28, which is still a lot more reasonable than most of you seem to have quoted! I need to phone around and find out about spaying Teddie.
