Worried new mum!

Thanks to every one for the welcoming and the advice... we've had Benjy for 4 days now and she's brilliant, we love her to bits.
As I've never had a kitten before there are a few things that concern me (may just be worrying for nothing)

After her jab she had been suffering from diarrhoea. I tried to give her just dried food but she was crying and only stopped when I gave her some wet. I mixed the wet and dried and yesterday she had a few solid poohs! I then without thinking gave her a duck pouch (wiskas) which went straight through her... I feel terrible:(

She also has a little wetness round her left eye, nothing major just a little more than the right which is why we're concerned.

And lastly:oops: she seems to be in a mood with me a little today cos we left her and went to work (my sister popped in and out) I also think she's missing the 7 other kittens she spent her first 8 weeks with:?

I'm popping to the vets later as my breeder suggested some prokolim to settle her stomach. Shall I take her with me for her eyes of is that over reacting (she was only there with the breeder last week)

A little stunner!! I have 2 British shorthairs, they are super.

Thing that puzzles me is that your kitten should of been FULLY vaccinated BEFORE you got her, its normal practice for pedigree Cats from reputable breeders. Why wasnt she?

Vaccinations can upset a kitten and puppy, if she were mine, I would give her tummy a complete rest for 24hrs, just water only, then introduce some chicken or white fish, just a little at a time. if she appeared unwell at all I would whisk her off to the Vet. You should also have recieved 6 weeks free insurance from your breeder, its free for them so there is no excuse for them not providing it.

Yes - Dawn has covered much important stuff there. Your vet will be able to advise on the tummy upset/sticky eye. Not sure if it's the same, but my baby has had sticky eye on and off and everyone says it's normal. Could be the same for cats too?

Thanks for the posts (she is such a cutie!), she is going back to the breeders vet on the 30th for her second vacination, the lady (who was really lovely) said that kittens do most of their socialising in weeks 9 to 12 so it's best to have her from 9 weeks??

Popped down to the vet today and got her something to settle her.. I think your right Dawn but she would cry the houes down with no food :?
Her poohs (sorry if anyone is eating!) seem to resemble the food that she has just eaten i.e no digestion.

I'll give her two days for this medication to take effect and if its no better I'll take her to the vets.. God knows what the next vaccination will do to my poor girl :evil:

Welcome to the scary world of kitten parenthood! lol. I'm sure Benjy will be absolutely fine. It's probably a combination of the injections and the stress of moving to a new home. Can't wait to see lots more photos.

alex, after hearing what your going through I think your probably right, she seems ok and I'm probably over reacting... it's just cos she's the first kitten of my own and it's unbelievable how much I love her and want her to be happy!.. it's a scary time being a new mum!

I know exactly how you feel. When that little tiny bundle of fluff is lying sleeping in your lap, giving out gentle purrs, you would do absolutely anything for them. Enjoy Benjy now, 'cause, like children, they grow so fast!

Certainly sounds like a bit of a reaction to the vaccinations, hopefully she will be better in a few days time. Dawn was right though, she should have been fully vaccinated by the breeder before you got her.

I dont think that breeder sounds very good - yes, they do a lot of socialising in that age group, but it is between mum and siblings. IF I ever got a pedigree, I Wouldn't accept it younger than 12-13 weeks.

Is she GCCF registered? If she is then her breeder is breaking rules. All registered kittens should be fully vaccinated and not leave until they are 12-13 weeks old. This lady may be very nice, or seem to be, but she is not a genuine breeder as she is selling them far too young and without the protection of the vaccine. All mine do not leave until 13 weeks are fully vaccinated, registered come with a kitten pack and free 6 week insurance. Most reputable breeders do this.

Yes I agree with Booktigger. The socialising aspect is important but only that they should be with Mum as she will teach behavioural skills. I would be wary of this 'breeder'.

I hope she feels better soon and she is a little poppet!
