I hope this is the one you are looking for Cathy.......

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called RainbowBridge. When an
animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet
goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our
special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of
food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and
vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The
animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each
miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly
stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His
eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying
over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally
meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the
beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your
pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

IF I SHOULD GROW FRAIL

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain does keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done
for this - the last battle -can't be won.

You will be sad I understand
But don't let grief then stay your hand.
For on this day, more than the rest
Your love and friendship must stand the test.

We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.

Take me to where my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end.
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.

I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.

Don't grieve that it must now be you
Who has to decide this thing to do.
We've been so close - we two -these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

I've seen the Rainbow Bridge poem before and it's been a comfort to me in the past, but I hadn't seen the other one Dinahsmum and it's lovely. Brought tears to my eyes, but still lovely. Thanks for sharing. :) xx

They say memories are golden
well maybe that is true.
I never wanted memories,
I only wanted you.

A million times I needed you,
a million times I cried.
If love alone could have saved you
you never would have died.

In life I loved you dearly,
In death I love you still.
In my heart you hold a place
no one could ever fill.

If tears could build a stairway
and heartache make a lane,
I'd walk the path to heaven
and bring you back again.

Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same.
But as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.

This is something I wrote when I had Oscar PTS almost a year ago now.

You are just a room away but
I cannot find the door,
You are just a whisper away but
I cannot whisper loud enough,
You are just a touch away but
I cannot reach that far,
You are just behind me but
I cannot turn fast enough,
You are in tomorrow but
I cannot make tomorrow today,
You are in my dreams but
I cannot sleep forever,
You are in my heart but
I will always keep you there.

It will be a year ago on the 18th of this month seems barely a moment ago he "hooked me" ie sat up on his bum and when he thought I was ignoring him (as if) and hooked me with his claw very gently. All my jeans had hook "pull" marks on them, he never did it when I had bare legs or skirts on. :)

And if you recall I wrote this for Dandysmum and Patches, I have to say (not to sound big headed) but this is more touching on the return reading.

Patches

They say when some thing is worn out you patch it, how wrong they are.
For Patches to me is a wonderful word filled with love and memories of a life lived to the full.
Because Patches is me.

Patches is the name you chose to give me, and through the years I've weaved my spell,
Of magic and mystery mingled with marvellous mischief, why?
Simple, because I'm your beloved cat.

You've loved me and I've loved you as only I can.
We’ve shared many hours of complete and utter bliss while I've purred and kneaded on your lap.

To think I’ll see you no more breaks my heart but now I'm free from aches and pains I know that will ease your loss.
For always in your heart and in mine I've remained ageless forever that young and strong cat.

So when you think of me please remember to see the cat I always was to you and to me, beautiful and kind and forever you’ll be mine as I will always be yours.
And recall with a smile how I was always ready to have ham as a snack, whatever the time.

I fell asleep safe and sound in my favourite place in our home.
And forever more I will sleep in the garden I love and hold so dear.
Never more than a whisper away, listen for my purr in the wind, as I say let me go I'm fine, I have angel feathers to catch.

So I ask you, think not of me with sadness but with joy for I chose to remain with you till the end, and will stay in your heart forever and a day.
I remain as always Patches your feline friend.

I was teary, Mags, but a good teary if you know what I mean...that beautiful essay wasn't just about Patches, but all my much loved cats on the Rainbow Bridge: Scamper, Su-Ling. Sultan, Misty and Dandy as well as Patches. I was remembering the good parts, and the funny parts, and the times they exasperated me, and the times when they scared me silly when they were ill....a quiet time of night to reminisce.

See I'm the same as you Dm, the tears now are good tears - as we know the time was right.

Here's another one i had put on my little Mollys remembrance plaque which i loved:
Your favorite chair is vacant now...
No eager purrs to greet me
No softly padded paws to run
ecstatically to meet me
No coaxing rubs, no plaintive cry
Will say it time for feeding
I've put away your bowl,
And all the things you won't be needing
But I will miss you little friend,
For I could never measure
the happiness you brought me,
the comfort and the pleasure.
And since God put you here to share
In earthly joy and sorrow
I'm sure there'll be a place for you
In Heavens bright tomorrow
