As I said yesterday we're of to see Rhymin' Simon on 6 November I think.
Here's a taster of my favourite album http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hearts-Bones-Paul-Simon/dp/B0002847XG/sr=1-1/qid=1158864118/ref=sr_1_1/202-0617189-3458214?ie=UTF8&s=music
You hear about 25 seconds of each track.

I looked for that Johnny Ace track yesterday DM and couldn't find it, so I was pleased to see this......until........when I clicked on it, a message came up "Sorry, this track is unavailable":(

What a shame, I was looking forward to listening to it:(

Like some of his stuff but not a big fan. I'm off to a country night on sunday. Got 2 tickets for free but can't get anyone to come with me (hubby would rather eat his right arm) so looks like I'll be Alex-no-mates! Asked some of my friends and they all look at me very strangely, apparently because I'm 32 I'm far to young for that sort of music

Oh thank goodness, I'm not the youngest geriatric on the block:p

I was brought up with my mum listening to 60's and country and it just rubbed off on me. I like up to date stuff too but I prefer to listen to my country.

There's a 30 minute 'loop' on BBC interactive at the mo. Just press text when your watching on digital and 'Paul Simon gig' will appear in the menu on the rh side.
Hasn't quite got the atmosphere of the live gig but it's the same band and they're very good. :smt023

Listen in 'Call Me Al', where he sings of a 'roly-poly little bat-faced girl'. That's become Bentley's theme tune, as he is definately a roly-poly little bat-faced boy :-D

A thread from way back, resurrected, but now I can 'do YouTube' I thought I'd post the vid of The Late Great Johhny Ace. Do you remember I spoke of it when we lost Shadowboxer and I said it is a sad song, about losing someone you never knew but felt you knew?
Be warned, there is a stickhead (I believe that is the correct term  - sounds like that anyway) who jumps on stage at one point, shouting about killing John Lennon. Everyone looks alarmed, but it's all OK in the end.
Don't know how old the clip is - Mr Simon has aged a bit since, but who cares? - the voice hasn't deteriorated.

Here's the lyrics

I was reading a magazine
And thinking of a rock and roll song
The year was nineteen fiftyfour
And I hadn't been playing that long
When a man came on the radio
And this is what he said
He said I hate to break it to his fans
But Johnny Ace is dead, yeah, yeah, yeah

Well, I really wasn't
Such a Johnny Ace fan
But I felt bad alI the same
So I sent away for his photograph
And I waited till it came
It came all the way from Texas
With a sad and sim-ple face
And they signed it on the bottom
From the Late Great Johnny Ace, yeah, yeah, yeah

It was the year of The Beatles
It was the year of The Stones
It was nineteen sixtyfour
I was living in London
With the girl from the summer be-fore

It was the year of The Beatles
It was the year of The Stones
A year after J.F.K.
We were staying up all night
And giving the days away
And the music was flowing amazing
And blowing my way

On a cold December evening
I was walking through the Christmas tide
When a stranger came up and asked me
If I'd heard John Lennon had died
And the two of us went to this bar
And we stayed to close the place
And every song we played
Was for The Late Great Johnny Ace, yeah, yeah, yeah
