It's brilliant!! I really feel for them. It's nerve wracking enough when you can ride and do show jump so God only knows how they are keeping it together having only ridden for a few weeks

He looked absolutely petrified when he went in the arena, bless him. The horse was going way too fast. He needed to steady him down but suppose he thought get round as quickly as possible and get it over and done with!

I'd love to do that.... Nothing much stopping me, I guess, except that it would seriously break our finances, and I don't like the stable we have here.

Ten to six on BBC Scotland as well.
It would almost be worth becoming a celebrity to do something like that... : /

Lol you don't need to be a celebrity to have a go Hreow! Actually most of them yesterday looked absolutely petrified but they have put them on really good horses that know their job and that's half the battle! I had a lovely jumping mare that I used to compete with but she was very head strong and feisty my hubby said that the producers should have put the celebrities on her and seen how well they did then lol!!

Last time I jumped was 1993 on a peach of a horse. I was only there to make sure he didn't break the sound-barrier on approach, or accidentally jump the corral barrier instead of the obstacles.

Are there actually owners who will consent to their charges being lent to beginners, or rusted-to-oblivion-ex-riders? Are they in that case out of their minds??
Stuck at the stage where I'm afraid I'd have enough skills to get us into trouble and not enough to get the horse out unscathed.

Fran

There are indeed people who will loan out their schoolmaster. But good schoolmasters are actually few and far between really :(

I have loaned out my horses in the past but only ever had one that would have been suitable for a beginner. However, my jumping mare would have frightened the pants off you but had you got her in to trouble, she was more than capable of getting you out of it ;)

 I spent the first seven-or-so years of my riding education *petrified*. When I came back to riding as an adult, I discovered I'm not scared at all. I would have taken you up on that challenge. It would have given you a good laugh, if nothing else. :-D

I actually prefer cross country to show jumping. There really is a buzz cross countrying but it is a more dangerous sport as they are fixed fences. I am the opposite of you. The older I have got, the less bottle I have got. As a teenager 4ft + fences didn't faze me. The last time I jumped four foot was a couple of years ago now, I was dared to be a teenager again  I pointed my mare to the fence I knew she wouldn't refuse it and I shut my eyes and let her take me over it lol!!! I haven't done it since. Most I jump now is a log in the wood :-D

Hreow

Cross-country would probably have my preference as well. I've never tried it. Well... more than the occasional log or logs in the woods then. Doesn't really count. :-)

I like eventing, at least the cross country bit, LOVE Horse racing, flat and national hunt. Havent ridden for a few yrs now, my friend keeps saying "ere get on this!" yeah, self preservation is at the top of my list now!

Fran

I've obviously missed something very entertaining here. The problem I have is when I see anything advertised as being with "celebrities" I switch off!
I'll try to watch the next programme though, sounds fun.

Watched it for the first time last night after you all said how good it is! Yes, I enjoyed it too, however had a running commentary from my daughter (has been riding for a good few years now) saying "they are not doing their rising trot right" or "they're on the wrong diagonal"! arghh. I'll watch it without her next time!

Hreow
12-07-2006, 01:23 PM
Send her over here next time. Haven't had a good horsey nag (!) in ages! :-D

Watched it for the first time on Monday. Missed it on Tuesday but what a pain in the **** I am! I'm shouting get thoes reines tighter, use your knees and that's just a Ceilidh on the couch pretending to ride:shock: :D
Really good though, enjoyed it.
I'm more of a cross country as well (or was). The bigger my mount the better. Twists in the stirips regularly:lol:

:-D Well I can't stand Matt B :? Hoping Diarmuid does well, as far as I am concerned he has come the furthest!

Hreow
13-07-2006, 10:44 PM
He has. Doesn't look (as much) like a scarecrow in a storm any more. He's got a good rapport with his horse as well.

Anna was unlucky tonight and did very well to stop on at that refusal. Matt B is very cocky and I don't like him but Diarmuid in my opinion has come on the furthest although I doubt he will win it..

I dont like Matt either, BIG head! same goes for Jenni. Didnt like Nicki much but now she's growing on me.
Dawn.

Hreow

At least Nicki doesn't give the impression of being a ME ME ME sort of person like Jenni (may just be the way the footage is cut of course).

Shame that it's over.
