Here's some of my plants on the decking this year.

I bought this planter and wondered what to put in it. I rather liked this but don't ask me what it is

This is the solar powered water feature I got for my birthday recently. Obviously it isn't running in this piccie as I have just taken it and it's going dark...

I had a green one for about 5 years growing in a planter.......it got so big I replaced it with the red one this year. It stayed outside throughout the winter without any problems. The first couple of years I did tie the leaves up loosely though to protect from any snowfall.....

 Ah ok. Well I suppose we are almost mid way between you Moli and you Mags. Perhaps I will pop it in a very sheltered spot beside the house at the very back of the decking and loosly tie the leaves like Mags suggested? It would be very much protected there..

All supposing it lasts that long

I have 3 of these big, dark red 'spikeys' - 1 in a big pot and 2 in the ground. None of mine get any protection from frost and the one I have in the front garden is quite exposed. It's also grown to about 15 ft and is quite stunning :D

I don't believe in spoiling my plants by giving them too many home comforts y'see ;)

This is my littlest 'spikey'. It's in a large pot (where it will remain), and is about 4ft tall (without the pot  )

This is medium spikey . . . he's in the ground in the north-facing back garden but gets quite a lot of light. He's about 8ft tall, and growning quickly now!!

And this is the biggie. He's in the south-facing front garden and I just leave him to get on with it!! He's actually turning into a tree  That's the 1st floor window he's approaching and this is a house with v. tall rooms
