View Full Version : Mini's not well ....

...again.

Remember just before I lost Tizzie I said they were both under the weather? Min came round then but I fear she is poorly again. She as been sick 2 days out of the last 3, is very sleepy and is losing muscle esp from her back end.

I will monitor her carefully over the next days (the really hot weather doesn't help) and make a dreaded vet appontment for early next week if she doesn't improve.

She was vet checked (but not blood work) very recently and the vet was very pleased with her. However, Tizzie managed to hide the poor state of her metabolism very well - maybe madam Min is doing the same.

Wish me luck. I really don't want to lose 2 cats in one season :(

Luck - Luck.
Hilary I wish you all the luck in the world. You know that, I also know the feeling of panic in your stomach when they take a trun downhill Cleo is similar but I think it may be this warm weather. Please God they both Min and Cleo have a happy summer.:)

She's tucking in, happily.

DM . . . I hope Mini picks up and that it's just a bit of a blip due to the warmth. Chicken is good at bringing cats round . . . a bit of chicken cooked in water and often they're right as rain!!! Hugs to both of you :-)

I'm so sorry, DM, but to be honest I've been under the weather too... The heat weighs on me like a stone.

Let's hope the same is the case for Mini :-)

Thanks for your good wishes everyone. She is much the same this morning - but so is the weather. I'm about to try to fiddle with doors and windows to try to engineer a bit of air movement. Failing that, a fan - but that gets annoying after a while.
Elaine, she is fifteen and three quarters, sixteen in September. She was my present to my daughter for her fifteenth birthday. Strangely, she's always lived with me, but then, she couldn't go to college with Katie.

No, sadly. She is not well. D&V. She looks as though she has halved in bulk overnight. :( She is resting quietly, and does not seem distressed. We have a vet appointment for late morning. I fear that, once again, I shall come home with an empty carrier. But maybe not; life and hope etc.

I'll be thinking of you, and hoping you DONT come home with an empty carrier.

I hope the vet can do soemthing for her, and she gets well again.
Good luck, here's hoping Mini returns home with you later.

She's been admitted for blood tests. I told the vet (not the one I usually see, but he was very nice/good and I'd be happy to see him again) that if the results are awful he's to put the catheter in her arm and call me and I'll go round and see her out but he said 'oh no; I don't think we're there'. I should be relieved but it's only 2 months ago that my usual vet didn't think Tizz looked too bad as she was admitted for bloods.......
We'll see.
Thank you all for your thoughts

I think she'll be fine I don't have a "feeling" about this vets visit the warm weather has made oldies lethargic don't you think :? Sure she'll be around to see the kits into their teens the Siamese way :-D - poor you,;)

I am off to work now back about 9.30ish sure everything will be fine. Take care I have to be right its my Birthday Saturday and this is my week, and my wish is for "good things" :-D

I think I can venture a small :)
At last the vet has rung (they were sooooo busy this morning - I was grateful they squeezed us in) . Bloods show raised Urea and Creatine. Creatine only slightly elevated so not indicative of ongoing kidney issues. May have mild cystitis so hoping to get a urine sample.

She's staying in overnight and having i/v fluids. That should work wonders.

More news tomorrow.

Oh my, I feel better. (but a bit guilty for not taking her yesterday ... pets- there's always some reason to beat yourself up! )

Edit: Thank you Kazz , for giving Min your birthday wish! It worked!

That sounds positive! So stop kicking yourself and have a cold drink to celebrate the absence of oh-noes!

Do you think a cold-water "bottle" might help her when she gets back, if the weather is still hot? I.e. the same thing as you fill with hot water to warm your feet on, but with cold water?

dinahsmum
08-06-2006, 04:30 PM
Good idea. Don't have a 'water' hottie (coldie) just gel/microwave ones. However, do have quite a lot of cool-pacs (you know, frozen blocks to keep your picnic/shopping cold. Put a couple of them under a load of towels? Mmm.

Have to go and water the allotment but a beer or two after that sounds good!

Donna

...do have quite a lot of cool-pacs (you know, frozen blocks to keep your picnic/shopping cold. Put a couple of them under a load of towels? Mmm. ...

Excellent idea. Unless she burrows much? Suppose you could always tie the towels on, if she does. I've done the same for the hottie for Rover last winter.

...Have to go and water the allotment but a beer or two after that sounds good!

That sounds **vital** after that!

I told you I had a good feeling about Mini and I have never ventured to say anything like that before when we have had an older cat go into the vets. But I felt confident enough to say it about Min.

I have said it before but she and Cleo are going to have a lovely happy Summer :)

So very pleased to hear your news although cystitis is not a walk in the park.

Latest bulletin;
Vet has just phoned. She is very comfortable, looking brighter. They offered her chicken and she wolfed it (there's a suprise  ). She hasn't peed yet, so they can't confirm a urinary infection.
They'll do a repeat blood test once she's been on i/v for 24 hours. If the urea and creatine has dropped she can come home on antibiotics; if they've gone up or not moved they'll keep her on i/v for a further 24 hours.
Next bulletin late afternoon.

I'm sooooooooo pleased and relieved :)

Yesterday's blood test shows early kidney failure. She has to have medication to reduce blood pressure in her kidneys, for a month and then another blood test, and a low-protien diet.
She looks absolutely fine and is behaving normally (and swearing at the babies) so i hope this regime will set her on the right route to living to 100!

Sorry to hear Mini has the onset of Kidney Insufficiency, failure conjures up so many nasty images and failure is such a long way off. I wish her many more happy healthy years. I am a little wary of the prescription diet as too little protein can result in muscle wasting. All the very best and please give her a wee cuddle from me xxx
