View Full Version : I have a new kitten!

Well as a few of you know I was pondering the idea of a new playmate for Kiara. Kiara was brought up with a lot of cats in her breeders home, Tabs just keeps herself to herself as she's an old girl now. She also spends most of her time outside, she hates being indoors, so Kiara is usually padding about the house alone.

Anyway bearing this in mind, I heard from a very good friend of mine that her neighbour had not long gotten a kitten, and was keeping it locked in a dog cage  She has an older cat who didn't like the kitten, and an 18month old little boy, and also a JRT pup, so she couldn't let the kitten out of the cage! My friend had had a word with her and said this was no way for a kitten to live, (apparently she is 7 weeks old and this woman has had her for 3 weeks! So she must have left mum at 4 weeks! then kept confined to a puppy crate). I was told she was farm bred.

So to cut a long story short I asked the lady if it would be ok to take her off her hands and offer her a good home, and she seemed really relieved TBH. Don't get me wrong the lady was nice enough, friendly, but just not very bright it seems....

She said the main problem was her other cat who hated this kitten, she brought him in the room, he was a black and white large moggy tom, she said he was a siamese/persian

Anyway so I have this little girl home with me, she is pretty bold and outgoing considering, although she seems pretty aggressive, a lot of hissing and spitting at everything, but considering she has been kept in a cage since she was 4 weeks old, and now has full run of the livingroom (untill I know she's litter trained), she is doing very well. She will tolerate Kiara from a distance and won't bother her. Kiara is so laid back she is horizontal and is taking it all in her stride.

Will get some piccies of her when I find some batteries for the camera! She is a small black girl and looks identical in size to my sisters kitten Ionee. You would think they are littermates from a glance, but they have very different faces.

She is called Vitaani. This was her name when I got her and I quite like it I think.

Goodness me, it's almost like Kiara's not going to stay a kitten for a moment longer than she has to

Vitanni (Vitaani?) is adorable!

Gorgeous girls! As long as you can "socialise" Vitanni when she's no birth-mum or sibblings to do so, she'll be fine, I'm sure. You must be over the moon!

(Why is *everyone* getting a kitten but *me*?!?) :-P

Thank you so much everyone. She is settling in really well and improving tenfold by the day. She has been sleeping on the same sofa as Kiara today and they have been chasing each other about the room all day. My sister had her kitten over today too and we are just trying to socialise her as much as we can. She is doing very well, she's still really young and the rate at which she is improving i'm sure she will be just fine.

She had a few accidents on the first day and wasn't using her litter tray, so like a puppy, after she woke up and after meals and play, I have been putting her in her litter tray, and just about half hour ago she went in and did her "thing" all on her own! iI have no idea if she was litter trained before. The lady didn't even know if she were male of female so I didn't ask too many questions. She also didn't know her age and just said "about 6-7 weeks". She told me she had had her 3 weeks, and got her at 4 weeks old so I just did the math.

She's booked in for a check up at my vet next week, so will let you all know how we get on. I do know she hasn't had any kind of worming, flea treatment or any jabs or anything yet so will get the worming done and get jabs booked for when she's old enough.

Kazz i'm sure the lady did think it was the best thing for her, i'm just glad she realised she would be happier outside a cage :)

Both Kiara and Vitaani are asleep on my desk now, albeit opposite ends!
