Good morning all, I have noticed a few times that Mau Mau does this:-

Grabs hold of a item of clothing i.e. at the moment its my jumper on the ironing pile, holds it in her mouth, then starts padding her feet up and down.

Any suggestions?

I must sound sooooooo dumb here LOL

Love, Julie x

sounds like she is getting comfort from it :)
padding her feet up and down is what kittens do when they are getting milk from their mummy ,a few of my adult cats do it too

I call it 'pumelling' (sp) Most cats do it, some more than others. Sidney does it all the time, any little bit of material, even my hair will do! They do this to stimulate milk from their mothers teats. I agree that it is comforting for them. Rosie used to do this and suck a piece of her fluffy bed at the same time! Bless.

Yep, it's a comfort habit.

You might want to think of giving her a 'blankie' so she doen't ruin your clothes? Also, check she doesn't eat too much (Min does sometimes!)

My Balie used to do that in my hair when he was smaller. Used to drool too . . . he still does it but thankfully not in my hair any longer :-D

It is to stimulate mother's milk and kittens do it when tiny. It's a habit some don't grow out of.

I call it kneading. It also releases scent from the glands in the paws, I think.

It definitely is a comfort thing left over from nursing days; some of them never outgrow it; Leis is 7 & kneads like fury whn she gets on my lap...my Mom sometimes called it "making bread" whern our old cat did it...as in kneading bread:D

Chloe has been very confused as I have bought new cushions for my sofa - now she has four beigy faux fur ones and four cream faux fur ones - she just goes from one to the next and works her way down the sofa purring and kneading them all!!!

I always assumed she "pretended" one cushion was her mummy - now she has eight!!!

Both my cats do it. Syd only does it with cuddly toys!!!?? Freddy does it on people and Syd. Especially does it to Syd and sucks his fur which earns a paw punch:cat13, maybe he thinks Syd is his mum. Thought he might have grown out of it but hasn't.
