Thanks Nat and Mags, well we really didn't get started until 11am as we had a tour of Gainsborough's House where the workshop is being held, and we also had to unpack all of our art stuff and some people set up their easel's. then at 1 we stopped for dinner, so hopefully tomorrow we will have a full day of painting :)

I know Mags, it will be £150 I will never regret spending, I feel so honoured to actually meet Dianna, she brought a few of her past painting with her as well and one thing that struck me was how small some of them were, mostly A4 size, and such clear crisp detail.

Hi Julie,

This one is on for three days, not sure if I will do any more this year, a Colin Bradley one has come up but I preferred to do Dianna's one as I like her work better.

lol it didn't look like that when I was working on it!!! lol the bowl was just a big blob of bright colours, Dianna told me to stop trying to be so precise!! lol Yes it is great fun and the other students are great. Now here is a picture of Dianna's just to compare!!! lol

Oh mine looks a bit different as I am working on a left handed photo and drawing, whereas Diann's is the right handed version ;)

Emma - that's lovely. The translucency of the bowl is very difficult to capture but I think you've as near as got it!!!

It makes me yearn for art classes again. I used to adore pastels; did my A level main drawing in pastels which the examiners hated (the were all oil afficianados) and marked me down for it. My teacher was horrified. But thankfully pastels are now getting the attention they deserve.

Love the play of light and shadow! and it's fascinating to see it grow. Would happily pay to stand at the back of the class and just watch the magic in progress.

Yola if you enjoy pastels you really should take it up again, there are so many amazing pastels and wonderful papers available nowadays, I think an art teacher should never be horrid to any of their students, that just isn't right, I wonder how many potentially very good artists are put off my a terrible teacher.

Deester you really would have enjoyed it, perhaps if Dianna ever comes to the UK again you could try and get on her course, just watching her is amazing.

Thanks everybody else, this WILL get finished tomorrow, I think I will be happier once it is all completed, all but one student on the class is still working on this piece, Dianna actually said today "hmmm I have given you quite a difficult one to paint" lol

EmmaG
17-05-2006, 05:54 PM
Finished piece :)

I will try and get a photo of this once I get it framed :)

:-D :-D :-D :-D
Yes the course is now finished Donna, Dianna said she might do another one in a couple of years time, if she does I will definately book it.

Thanks everybody, I am pleased with the end result and it should look really pretty framed :)

Fran I learnt so much about pastels in those three days, how to apply colour, how to blend, saw different pastels and papers, it was really worth it :-D

Donna

So are we gonna see more kitty pics in pastels Emma?

EmmaG
17-05-2006, 06:27 PM
Yes I am hoping to do more pastels as they are normally a lot quicker also I would like to get a more loose style to my pastels but at the same time really concentrating on the eyes.

The only problem with pastels is they are a devil to send through the post as fixative does dull them down a bit.

Donna
17-05-2006, 06:28 PM
Am sure whatever you do, it will be great Emma - I just cant get my head round how you do it TBH!!!

EmmaG
17-05-2006, 06:32 PM
All of the pastels turned out really really good, we took some group photos, if I can get my hands I one I will post them up and you can see, some of the students hadn't done much pastel work at all and they were all REALLY good.

EmmaG

They are all good aren't they Mags, all very different (mine and Marina's were left handed versions so our flowers are on the other side to the rest of the group) but we all used different colours so they are all very different, I think we all did very well, nobody was unhappy with their final painting which was really good.

Donna
17-05-2006, 09:58 PM
They are all great Emma - so many talented people!!

You're right. Different, but all very good. So, if you were all unhappy, that must mean you have learned a lot and also know what skills to polish up next?

EmmaG
18-05-2006, 07:52 AM
Hreow I think it is just more practice for us all, pastels are very easy to use you just have to have the confidence to go for it, this is a photo of a drawing Dawn one of the students did (the blonde haired lady in front of me in the photo), it has so many colours in the face, pink, green, purple but it works really really well
