Just thought some of you might like to see what I am growing in the two raised veggie plots I have at the end of my garden, not much going on at the moment, in this one I have squashes (under the bells) and strawberries. I have also planted some onion sets and runner beans.

plot 1

Plot two has radishes under the bells and I have planted a lot of seeds out

plot 2

photo of the two plots, as you can see from this photo where I have placed a marker tab is where I have planted some seeds, lets hope they all come up :)

I will keep this updated with photos as the seeds germinate and grow, I hope you will all enjoy the progress pictures :)

Looking very professional Emma!!! Your two veggie plots is about the size of my whole garden!!!!

EmmaG

lol I did have one massive plot but found that it was a bit daft as I couldn't reach the centre without actually getting onto the plot and that was very messy, So we changed it to two plots which are better, they are not that big, I think about 8 foot by about 4 foot. But I do grow a lot of veg in there also a lot of mini veg ;)

Emma - have you got rhubarb? Early is just starting to crop now.

EmmaG
31-03-2006, 09:20 PM
DM I have never grown rhubarb, although I would like to, my two veggie plots I think are a little too small for it, however once we get the fencing done next year I am going to try them in a couple of my new borders :)

Loved seeing the pictures; looking forward to the updates as the season progresses!! My entire back yard is only 30 X 30 feet and a lot of that space is taken up by stuff thats already in there, shrubs, roses, etc., so actual garnening space is small...would LOVE to have as much room as you do!

You seem very well organised there Emma! It's lovely to follow their progress.......right up to going on your dinner plate!:D
I think there is a lot of satisfaction gained from growing your own produce....you know exactly what's in them (no chemicals) and so fresh

EmmaG
02-04-2006, 11:39 AM
I have been growing veg now for about 6 years and you are very right Mags that it is so nice as they are so fresh no chemicals. I have never had a problem with growing the veg as they always seem to do well (sometimes a little too well), I think the only problem I have ever had (apart from caterpillars which I always leave!! lol) is blight on some tomatoes.

Yes I thought it would be good fun to see how some of these plants and seeds grow :) I have grown more herbs this year which I find quite interesting.

In the coldframe I have also planted 4 of Donna's sunflower seeds she very kindly let me have :)

EmmaG
05-04-2006, 05:22 PM

The things that have germinated in the plot are labeled L Salad on my plan?? hmmm I think that means salad leaf ;)

Thanks Donna, Mags and DM, I am getting a bit concerned about the possible lack of space I will have in my plots!!! lol I have another two propagators with seeds in now!!! lol

dinahsmum
14-04-2006, 12:06 PM
My electric propagators are full - it's like hospital; I'm waiting for one tray to be strong enough to convalesce in the unheated growhouse before I can sow anything else!

Looking good Emma - Well done!!

EmmaG
14-04-2006, 12:12 PM
I know what you mean DM, I just transplanted some more radishes from the propagator to pots, ready to do on the plot when the others have been picked (can't be long now, they are doing really well)

I did have a look at a Super 7 windowsil progagator but it was £32 which I thought was quite a bit, but it does have seven individual pods with lids on them :) so once the seeds have germinated you can just remove the individual pods

dinahsmum
14-04-2006, 12:14 PM
Mmmm - I saw that (Argos catalogue, I think). Looks a good idea, as the individual containers aren't too big and prevent you getting too enthusiastic.........who really needs 240 brussel sprout plants!?

EmmaG
14-04-2006, 12:27 PM
Oh yes Argos have got them :) I also like the idea that you can do flowers and veg without disturbing the seeds :)

I think that will have to be one for my Xmas present list :)

EmmaG

hahaha that is the sort of thing I would do, plant up a whole packet of seed!!! lol

True. I still find myself out of places to plant things, though. Scottish winter not killing off nearly enough. Possibly because I pick the ones that are hardy, tend to survive my treatment of them as well... :-)

I wish I might eventually have a plot to grow plants that look as happy and healthy as those, Emma.
