Just a quick update to report progress - which is exactly zero!

Several members kindly send me alerts for ads on the web (I am a little wary of those) but none have been suitable so far.
I have placed a wanted ad on one site and had a super reply from a lady in Essex with a ginger and a tabby - we both agreed it was too far away:(
I missed out a potential success by a couple of hours last week!
I could have had non-gingers x 4 last week
I will get a sneak preview of the local paper (Friday publication) again tomorrow`
There is nothing in the pet shops or vets today.

There seem to be lots of 'wanted' ads, so I guess it is that time of the year before the main breeding season starts when demand exceeds supply.

I will just wait until they appear - it's bound to happen sooner or later.

Just out of quariosity (sp) how far would you be prepaired to travel or indeed met half way?

dinahsmum
08-02-2006, 03:45 PM
Well Jac - I don't think I'd do a 'meet half way'. You'd never know where the kit actually came from or if you were getting involved in 'kitten farming', which seems to be starting up now, sadly. I don't think it would be much fun for a kit to travel more than an hour (which means we travel 2 hours), so, given the great roads in Dorset (we don't have none of they blue roads:) ) that's about 50 miles. Would cover all of Dorset, over to Southampton, up to Salisbury, across to Yeovil etc.
However, as time goes on, I think I will find my boys within the local paper circulation area, or indeed just here in town.

Another few weeks and there will be ginger kittens everywhere you look DM. The kitten season is starting early this year as it has been so mild & the cats are breeding earlier.

Hang on in there, ginger & ginger are just round the corner ;)

Yes Smudge - that's the conclusion I have come to. All the more reason not to get in a kitten-panic and go off who-knows-where to pick up who-knows-what.

PS - mild? Not here!

I would so love another kitten. Am thinking of going to wood green while the kids are away and seeing what youngsters they ahve that they would re-home with us.
the really annoying thing about them is that if you phone, tell them your circumstances and ask if they have anything suitable, they tell you to come look.I dont see why they cant say yes or no right away, cos it's a pain the bottom, not to mention disheartening to drive all the way there and find they dont have anything suitable.

A nice lady from Bournemouth responded to my ad last night. She has a boooootiful ginger shorthair oriental (?), 2 years old who must be rehomed urgently. (He is advertised now on free-ads). I don't think it's fair to bring one adult cat into the organised chaos which is our home, so I said no to her :( . Beautiful cat though. She must be so sad..................

I looked at it, but thats not much use either. You can fill out a form, and send it to them, but they dont tell you when a possible match comes in. there policy seems to be come and look for yourself. But hubby is going to drive me there sunday, it's an afternoon out if nothing else, we look around at bunnies, cats dogs, horses if stables gates open.
Just wish they had a better system of telling you before you get there.

Thought I'd got him! (again:roll: )
Just doing my sweep of the various websites offering kittens.
Just appeared - 9 week old ginger male (!) within an hour of me (!!) for sale because baby is too rough ( :cat13 ).
Looked again, re-read it - yes, all fab
Glanced at the price wanted - £120!
For goodness sake! That can't be right - over £100 for a moggy? - and a second hand one at that.

smudgley
12-02-2006, 02:51 PM
Oh what a shame - so close again

That's a silly amount of money DM. I doubt if they will sell him for that.:?

Donna
12-02-2006, 02:51 PM
Could you not ring and tell them what you would be prepared to pay for him? And say that the average price for a moggy is a lot less than £120??

Mags
12-02-2006, 02:52 PM
   surely that's not right for a moggy? I wonder if it was a misprint DM?
Might be worth giving them a ring just to check?:?

dinahsmum

Agree with you all.
See this is where I get on my high horse and say that I wouldn't even want to meet someone who thinks so little of an animal. So I'm not really into contacting and offering a sensible sum. Did bounce it between all 3 of my brain cells but no - don't like that puss-mom - don't want to meet her.:( Cutting off my nose to spite my face maybe but I'll just sit tight and wait for my boy.

Moli

dinahsmum
12-02-2006, 05:09 PM
DM...it could be a genuine misprint? maybe should say £20??
No, it was there twice - once £120, once £120 or reasonable offer. They've obviously spent money cos the price includes bed, scratch post, litter tray, some foor, flea treatment etc, BUT ............ just doesn't sound good to ask for that much.
PS - he's not vaccinated - that could have made it more reasonable

Fran
12-02-2006, 05:11 PM
Oh I see, well it sounds like they are trying to recoup the cost of everything spent then :( Good luck to them if they expect to get that much money for a moggie

Kazz
12-02-2006, 05:12 PM
Could well be a misprint DM never put down to malice what can be pure error.;) Someone I know advertised her Staffie pups in a well know dog paper, her price £200 (I know this was a while ago) the price the paper put in £1200 - pure error but she had no phone calls.

Contact them and ask - them to confirm the price the worst that can happen is you will be certain you don't want to go further. And the good point in theri favour they have realised early on that the "baby" is too rough, not everyone realise how delicate a kitten is till they see the children in action with it.

12-02-2006, 05:14 PM
