My vet has just rang to ask if I can help with a cat they have just taken in to be pts. The cat is 15, and apparently the children are allergic!!! The vet has checked it over, and it does have some tarter on its teeth, but doens't look 15, the vet would put it at 10. It is a tortie, so prob female. It does appear to be a bit traumatised at the mo. The vet is willing to keep it till tomorrow, but they aren't officially allowed to keep animals on the premises overnight. I am full, and the rescue are (unless anyone knows of any farms needing cats) - at a pinch I could take her temporarily to buy some time. Cat is based in the Rochdale area.

Poor old girl, sorry I'm too far away too. Would help if I could.

Do you not have more than one rescue? Is it Cats Protection you've approached? It's rare that they turn cats away; certainly our lot will always find a corner for a cat that's under threat.

If not CP couldn't the RSPCA help or maybe an independent rescue centre? I'm at the other end of the country so can't help much as I'd love to - so sorry :(

Agree with Yola - whilst we sometimes have to priorotise as we just can not cope with the demand of cats needing rehoming, we would always take in an old lady that was stuck at the vets.

As for the RSPCA - Personally I wouldn't waste a phone call. - Sorry guys -

Thanks to a request on another cat forum, 2 homes have come up for this cat, and I just have to decide which is better!! One is further away but can have her this weekend, the one that is less travel is a two week wait. As for our local CP, they have a restriction on how many cats they can have at any time (long story), and have a shortage of fosterers (another gripe of mine), so highly unlikely they would have said yes - they refused a 12 year old that they originally rehomed last year on the grounds that they couldn't possibly home a cat that old - I rehomed her in 8 weeks. When I said rescue, I meant the one I foster for, the lady did mention at least one of the other local rescues to the vets, so we did assume she had contacted some. And our RSPCA shelter is still being built - no idea why as the last one closed down years ago, they must think they will have a better job this time round - and no, I wouldn't contact them about a cat this age.

WEll, I have a choice of 2 homes for her, one is a 2.5 hour drive and can pick her uptomorrow, but I know other people have homed to her with no probs, one is a 1.5 hour drive, but they can't take her for 2 weeks, and I don't know much about her - the other thing that is making me unsure is if she changes her mind once they have moved. Any advice from rescue people??? Whichever one she goes to, I am picking her up tonight

That is excellent news!!! I'm delighted that puss has a new chance at a good life.

She is going to the people who can pick her up this weekend - it is a further drive, but hopefully less stressful than coming to mine for 2 weeks, then being moved again. So, everything going well, I am picking her up from the vets tonight, and they are coming on Sun for her.

well, Chloe arrived last night - she is very hissy spitty. she is in a pen, and is covered apart from one end (and i swapped that for the end where she can't see cats), and even when there are no cats that near, but in teh room, she starts growling. was out last night, and when I got back, I noticed she was sitting in the litter tray - thought she was being odd, but it turned out she had knocked her water over the towel, so I swapped it for a cushion, and apart from growling cos it smelled of cats, she went on it. She hasn't eaten a lot though. HOw do I add pics?

Well, she is eating now, and has used the tray. Only prob is I tried to change her water and tray last night, got as far as the water before she sneaked out, and trying to catch her wasn't good as she turned on me, I had to put a towel over her to get her - and then she tried to go for me while I was locking the cage door. She is being picked up at 1ish though, and her new owners have the time, space and patience to let her come round.

Do you think this poor thing would benefit from a pheremone diffuser or (simpler) Rescue Remedy in her water?

Will keep you posted, am going to ask her owners to keep in touch.
I actually bought some rescue remedy yesterday, she had some in her tea, and when she escaped, I put a bit on each of her ears before putting her back in the cage, and she had some in her breakfast this morning.

WEll, they set off with her at 2.30, so she is on her way to her new home - I am sure she will love her new home (I want to move in as well!!). She is going to ring when they get back, and will keep me updated.

She got home safely, and was put in their bedroom, where she found a nice hidey hole under their bedside cabinet. She is going to keep in touch, so will let you know.

Have had an update off her new owner, here it is

Well our first night has gone well. Chloe slept with us last night in
our room. She's been hidding but was very interested in looking out
the window this morning when the dogs went out. She hasn't eaten a
lot, just a liitle nibble but she's used her litter tray and didn't
run away from me when I stroked her before I came into work. I'm sure
she'll settle in the next few days. I keep reassuring her that she is
safe and that she's ok. She is very pretty and doesn't look old. As
yet she hasn't growled or spat at us so I think that's a plus.I will
let you know how we get on and try to post another piccie (if I can
find someone to do it for me.
