For all of you who see their cats contemplating the snow, and wondering what they are thinking............well atleast what I think Cleo is thinking as she is a cat who thinks before she moves.;)

Mystery all around.
She sits primly upon the doorstep
Sheltered:meditating
Upon the complete loss of the World.
Yesterday there it was:
Grass, trees, soft brown earth: little paths
And tunnels through the hedges.
Green, brown and blue. Now-white nothing.
Bright and asparkle and frightening.
Tentatively she raises one paw
And holds it, consulting
Within herself. Mysteries must be solved.
The paw is placed lightly
Upon the soft snow and slowly sinks.
Two inches to firm ground.
Encouraged, shetries a second paw.
Two more and she stands firm.

She scoops a paw of foam and drops it.
Soft melting magic.
She sends flying the frothy white flakes.
She darts and springs and makes
Deep tracks showing the familiar brown
Cold and wet penerate
And Cat returns through her own rough tracks
To the fireside, leaving
Little flurries of snow on carpets
and paw-printed patterns.
Dreams of solving white mysteries,
can be left to another day.
The sofa is calling, her inside World
remains always the same.

What a beautiful poem. I have a photo of sappho going into the snow for the very first time and was planning on doing a scrapbook layout with the photo. Would you please give me permission to include your poem. Full credit would be given of course. Thanks.

You may use it with pleasure but no credit will be neccesary - in fact I would not like to be named at all. You could say Anon.
