Which way does your garden go

Okay watching Alan Titchmarsh now and I realised I have no idea which direction my garden goes :shock: if I get a compass to I stand with my back to the house or face the house to see which way the garden faces ie South West etc etc

My back garden faces south-west so we get quite a lot of sun during the day.....

Have no idea how to work it out, but my garden has sun most of the day which is great now it has been "done" and I can sit out there in the summer in my new swingy chair :lol:

We're basically south-facing. It was one of the criteria when house-hunting!

Either by the sun, in day to day life, or with a compass if it's somewhere you're not familiar with. Stand with your back to the house and look down the length of the garden. If the sun rises to your left, shines directly at you in the middle of the day and goes down to your right, you are south facing. If you use a compass, stand with your back to the house, look at the compass, the needle pointing north should be ponting towards you, if you are south facing. (Open the compass, let the needle settle, move the compass shell around until the N is directly under the needle. You can now check out 'all points of the compass'!
