Well things are getting worse here :( Lucky is struggling to use one of her back legs. She is limping very badly and still isn't eating very much, I assume she is in pain :( Off to the vets at 11.20am in the morning but I really think the outcome of this isn't going to be good

Oh dear Fran.

Metacam is a NON steroidal anti inflammatory drug. It has pain relief and anti-inflammatory properties. Steroids dont really provide any pain relief, maybe a switch back to Metacam or a combination of both will see her perk up, I hope so.

Steroids are anti-inflammatory drugs, metacam is a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug similar to human Ibuprofen. She has never been prescribed Metacam, the vet went straight in and put her on steroids as they are stronger. I have Metacam in for another reason but because she is on steroids I will wait to speak to the vet before using Metacam..

She seems very depressed :(

Sorry to hear lucky is worse PK:(

I wouldn't give her any metacam without the vet prescribing it. As long as she is comfortable - I would just wait & see what the vet says tomorrow.

Thinking of you. :cat21

I spoke to someone this evening..I can't give the Metacam. Will see what happens tomorrow at the vets. At present she is layed on a hot water bottle and I have put Maud in with her for company. Did think about bringing her up to bed with us but it isn't her routine and I think would stress her more :?

Fran, I've only just caught up with this thread and I'm so sorry to hear how poorly Lucky is.....old age is so sad...I hope the vet can give her something to make her feel more comfortable, in the meantime just keep her warm, quiet and comfortable. Ok, back from the vets. The news isn't good. The leg problem it seems is the least of her problems. She has damaged her achilles tendon(well the feline equivalent) but the vet says it is causing her no pain. She seems to have a 'mass' in her bowel, looks like a probable tumour. She has to go back on Tuesday for a 'second' opinion as the vet is not 100% certain and wants another vet look at her.

She has had a steroid jab to help with the leg problem....

Fran

Got her the AD diet and for the first time in days she has eaten with a little gusto :)

Oh Fran, I am so sorry to hear about lucky. I hope the mass isn't a lymphoma (this is what Lucy had when she started loosing weight and nothing she ate was absorbed and she kept being sick all the time) I think at this time her eating as much as she wants to is very important.

Glad to hear that she is eating the AD with some gusto, it is brilliant stuff. You can warm it up in the microwave a little, apparently it brings out the flavour a bit more. Sorry the new wasn't better. I will keep my fingers crossed for the second opinion. Keep your chin up and hugs to you both.

Take care of yourself Fran and remember nothing is ever as bad as we imagine it to be. Believe me.
As I say take care, and don't forget your part of the cat "owners" terms and conditions.;)
(((((((hugs))))))) Karen

Fran
20-12-2005, 12:23 AM
Thank you both...
You are right Kazz...I signed an invisible contract all those years ago which stated that I would always do my very best for her at all times not matter how hard that would be...

Better a day too early than a day too late ;)

Kazz
20-12-2005, 12:30 AM
See knew you'd read it; the trouble is with that contract its not until its needed does the invisible ink makes itself visible;)

And believe me nothing is as bad as we imagine. And luckily cats like dogs don't imagine all they know is they are safe with us, and we'll love them always and forever.

It is hard I know, because I have the red raw puffy eyes to prove it. But I also have a heart thats a little lighter because I know I did my best for him.

Fran
20-12-2005, 10:54 AM
Morning all, well Lucky is very much brighter in herself today. STill eating very very little and I think the stress of syringe feeding her is not an option at the grand age of 18. I want her to go with dignity and a dignified old lady she is. At present she is sitting on my lap, something she has never done in 18 years until the last couple of months. She always sits beside as close as possible but never on your lap up until recently. Maud is beside her and Maud is her best feline companion. She is alert and enjoying watching Claude and Clooney playing with the Kitty go Krazy.
Kazz's words are ringing in my ears "better a day too early than a day too late" and it is for that reason that I have not taken her for a second opinion this morning. I have made arrangements for her to cross the Rainbow Bridge, here at home in my arms tomorrow morning

Thank you all for your support and good wishes...you are a great bunch ;)

We're with you Fran.
It's so nice (totally wrong word, but I'm lost for words just now) that she can pass from her own home - no stressy cat carrier/car journey/waiting room time. You won't have to exit red-eyed from the surgery.
So sorry. Be sad now but soon you will be able to look back with happiness at all your years of good memories.

Kazz
20-12-2005, 11:54 AM
And the looking back with a smile is done sooner than you think, because there is so much to look back on. Its hard to remember anything but smiley things,:D Take care of yourself Fran I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

I feel for you I really do; but nothing anyone says will take away what you feel now.

Sorry Fran.
Try & be positive like Kazz - (easy for me to say I know) but hopefully in time you will look back & remember the 18 good years you had together - not the last sad day.
As you know we lost Mitten in October - so sudden - no time for goodbyes - I still miss her loads - but I can now remember some of the good things about her life & less of the day the accident happened.

Take care:)
