Having just been grooming my 3-some I noticed that my lilac/cream girl, Fifi has become far more lilac recently. I thought initially it was because Darcy who is cream had arrived in our house which accented how much darker Fifi was with her mixed colour. However, I'm certain she's changing as she has actually ver little cream in her fur now, and instead is a lovely pinky-grey.

Can cats change colour? Is is due to age do you think?

Yes, I think they can and it is probably an age thing.

Maybe the time of year can change it e.g summer and the sun bleach the colour brighter??

Bright sun often makes black cats look a little 'rusty'

Yes my Ferdy (originally 'blackcat' when he was a stray), was black but after a few months of living with us developed a definite rusty tinge . . . we always laughed and said it was when the dirt washed off :-D

Thanks for your feedback guys!

I know older black dogs go a bit 'rusty', I am sure cats would be the same! My last pair of cats (Sooty and Sweep) were mother and daughter and both were black and white. Sweepie is turning a bit 'rusty' atm, she is 13. Sooty unfort died at 7.
