Thank you Mags, Pretty Kitty, Tom Cat and Az!

We are just begining Autumn here with the nights getting cold but no frost yet. YET. We live on the shores of Lake Erie so our warmer weather season is a bit longer than those just a few block away from the Lake.

 You want more pictures? That is very sweet! OK.....here's some more. :)

Just a decorative fountain which is more of a bird bath.

This is the transformation between a tiny scraggy bit of ground behind the house to our very pleasant and very very easy maintenance makeover. The decking etc is supposed to be non bird friendly but we have hundreds of birds in the hedge and I keep the bird-bath full so they can get a drink

Kazz
13-10-2005, 07:05 PM
Thanks all its the only bit I have left with the two "dogs" both being bitches the grass had to go in such asmall space a bit useless anyhow. So I replaced it with gravel and the slabs. The rest is paved - eay to keep tidy - we can wash it down and no mud to wade through so it suits me.

Thanks all its okay and my Acer is my baby DM I rescued him as a twig about 12/13 years ago and he now repays me ever summer with such beautiful colour to the right of the Acer is "baby acer" a light green one just behind white flowers he starts green then goes orange in autumn he is about 4 years old now - another twig I rescued:roll:

My back garden. A small north-facing town garden with a huge magnolia which I adore; except at this time of year when it drops its leathery leaves everywhere!!! We are contemplating completely paving it as the grass NEVER dries out and with Dominik's tricycle antics it's been reduced to even more of a quagmire than usual. Hence I was quite interested to see the gravel/paving/decking garden. Does the gravel tend to get walked into the house? I love it but hubby is a bit anti it for that reason. Also do your cats use it as a litter tray  ?

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v210/yolamealing/House/Cat_pictures_007.jpg

My front garden! This is a springtime shot and show my dwarf cherries in all their glory! We live on a busy road and planted to garden up to create a sound buffer, privacy and colour. I adore it . . . it needs quite a lot of maintentance and regulary turns into a mad jungle. You're seeing it just after quite a heavy pruning session . . .

Hi Yola

"Does the gravel tend to get walked into the house? I love it but hubby is a bit anti it for that reason. Also do your cats use it as a litter tray "

The answer to both is no. I think the secret is to get the larger size - if you use pea gravel or soemthing that size the cats are likely to flock from miles around!!!:) It certainly doesn't get walked in.

When it is just put down it's very dusty and you have to give it a good hosing - that's all.

Decking is a bit slippery when wet (not just damp) and very slippery with frost on it.

However I would think the plusses of the little one being able to play out on dry winter days make it well worth looking at.

Your front garden is fab - lots of work has gone into that, hasn't it?

Thanks for that! There was a lot of work on this garden. The soil was very poor so each bed had to be dug out and replenished with good soil before planting. All the existing originally was 1 x dead cherry and 1 x shrub that I moved to the front wall where it is more than happy.

We've only had a few casualties; for some reason conifers refuse to grow in the front - I've had 4 die on me so have given up on them  We've been in the houe for 8 1/2 years now and we've done the garden very gradually (time and cost being a primary factor in that decision  )

Fab gardens Yola and nice to see someone else living in a 3storey house

re the gravel, do you mean stone chippings/pebbles? if so they get FULL of spiders!!! Ive never seen so many crawl about under my feet! thank god that was in the old house

 WOW!!

That will teach me to not check in for a few days!

~~DM: What a magical transformation! Just fantastic!~~

~~Kazz: LOVELY flowers. I am soooo jealous! If I tried that here the German Shepherd would either:
a. pee on the plants
b. trample through the plants
c. first pee and then trample the plants!

~~Yola: Beautiful garden!

You have all given my little chickadee brain some ideas what to do over here in the spring.

More pics please! :)

Yola your garden looks great really good I would go with maybe paving and possibly decking especially with a little one on a trike (can't see him cycling through gravel) but maybe in certain area's.

But your front garden looks great :D

Samwise your garden looks great if you want to hide rather than replace the shed how about putting sopme freestanding trellis up and grow climbers up? Or sweet peas?

You can get a fantastic shed/greenhouse thing combined. Sort of shed with large sloping glass front - when I have time I'll look around for a link to a pic. saves space and looks quite smart.

You're welcome!

It is good, because a greenhouse is often more of a waste of space for a lot of the year. You can raise stuff and grow tomatoes in the hybrid version. We used to have one but left it behind when we moved house.:cat21
