My kitten wandered out for one day and is now back. What should I do?

Suvi my my four month old kitten wandered out for a whole day. I was so worried sick and searched our neighborhood for her like a mad man.

Just when I thought she will never come back, the next day when I nipped out to the corner shop - - there she was - near our home meowing like a banshee and demanding to be brought back home.

I brought her home and fed her. Obviously she hadn't had anything to eat. Poor thing!

Should i deworm her or take her to the vet or anything like that? I just cannot imagine the mischief she was up to while outside. Is four months too early for her to be sexually active and all that? Help!

http://www.fabcats.org/owners/neutering/info.html

It may be an idea to book her in for her spey now, to be on the safe side. I'd be more worried about the pregnancy issue than the worming at this stage ro be honest but worming her wont do any harm.

I would book her in for a spay as Elaine suggested, then if she does start going out will not wander far and you know there is no chance of kittens.........

I didn't think cats could be spayed until 6 months old. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Its not of a case of they CANNT be spayed earlier just that vets recomend to spey at the 6 month mark. Cats in feral colonies are quite often neutered and speyed early.
I'd rather my cat was speyed early, if I was in the same position as this owner is, than bring even more kittens into the world.

Some vets will now do neutering at 4 months..... and a few will do it a few weeks earlier, I suppose it depends on your vet.

This guideline makes interesting reading. Click on Policy statements in the left hand column and read Policy statement 1.

That's a great resource Mags - thanks for the link. Nice and straightforwardly explained too.

Just thought I'd add - my vet neuters at 6 months - perhaps I ought to see if Pip can be done earlier (not that he's got any pom poms yet!)
