Can anyone recommend dog training treats - tastier the better (from a dog's POV!)?

Thanks.

I am sure MrsH gave a recipe for the biscuits she makes for Mogan, but I can't find it ........ can anyone help?

Ive always used cheese or chicken.

You cab buy training treats called "Rewards" in pet shops. They come in a packet & are long pliable meaty sticks, you just break off what you want/need

Cheese, chicken, hotdog sausagges in tny amounts or liver cake.
Liver cake is easy to make.
500gms liver
500gms self raising flour
small pinch of garlic salt
2 eggs
All in blender
put onto baking tin and cook for 30 - 40 mins (might have that bit wrong)

You can make cookies easy enough too, pretty much same as above but with plain flour and you can use salmon, tuna, sardines, cheese, pretty much anything.

Rayne loves small bits of raw carrot as a treat too.

Liverbread -
350g liver
1 egg
1 teaspoon baking powder
2 cloves garlic or 1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon olive oil
150 g flour (plain or self-raising)

Put liver, egg, garlic, baking powder and oil into food processor and whizz until it's a smooth paste. Add flour gradually, add more or less flour as needed as long as it's a thick paste.

Line a baking tray/swiss roll tray with foil and spread the paste

Bake at 180c for about 20 minutes, check with a skewer.

When it's cool I cut it into about 8 pieces and freeze it, when needed I thaw and cut a piece into lots of tiny nibble-sized bits.

It's rich and smelly, I wouldn't give a small puppy loads of it but it's great for really getting their attention and cooperation!

Ooops Elaine beat me to it!

Can I check something? Liver - what sort? Chicken, or lamb or pig's??? I understood that too much liver may give a dog the runs. Garlic is obviously OK if cooked ...... ?

Hats why i prefer chicken or cheese. Lambs liver is mild however it doesnt agree with either of ours, cooked or raw perhaps you could substitute the liver with chicken /ake chicken cake?

I use lamb's liver as that's what I usually buy for us, so there's always some in the freezer.

Garlic is fine in moderation, it's one of the things I sometimes use for tick repelling, Morgan likes eating the odd clove of it!

You're right to be wary though Angie, Monty's still very young so don't overdo the liver treats. I had to stop using cheese as a training treat because it gave Morgan the runs, but he was fine with it once he was older.

I agree with Mrs H puppy tummies are very delicate, and lots of things that I had to steer clear of when Sal was a pup are fine now, in moderation. I used lambs liver too because it was what was eaten by humans and often in the freezer.
But I agree try chicken/turkey instead of liver. I find that anything I had was "special" to pups and therfore a treat.
