Why do I find this sort of stuff so compelling and, surprisingly, comforting?

Oddly enough I recently read an article...with pics....on this very subject: not as detailed as the one you linked. And it is chilling to think that most of our civilization will be completely gone; and yet, as you say, oddly comforting to know that life and the Earth go on ...perhaps another species will develop intelligence and be a better steward of the Earth than we have been .......

I'd like to think so, but without opposable thumbs they couldn't make tools or fire, paint cave art, make clothing and do other things that would be necessary for what we think of as civilization; maybe it would be a completely mental based system: telepathy, telekinesis, etc.....

You're right random - "Life After People" on the History Channel Easter Sunday 9.00 pm.

What I find astounding in the article is that the Dead Sea Scrolls lasted 2,000 years but today's electronic data will be lost as soon as the power shuts off and the generators are exhausted. Our history will just cease.

we live sadly in a disposable society, and if we carry on using the resources like we are, this outlooks going to be sooner rather than later.what are we going to do when the oil runs out??? no power, there will be a total breakdown in society.
