Re: Malaika

Great photos Shelley. I was sorry to see that Malaika didn't pass her Gold - but only failing on one exercise ..... they were strict, weren't they?

Re: Malaika

She's a very pretty girl. I seem to remember Basenjis don't like sitting on cold floors ...... Don't blame her. Better luck next time.

Re: Malaika

thanks Angie, we are a bit upset about it she did so well in everything else. The standard of Gold is very high indeed and we have had to work realy hard.
Previously she has been ok with the A recall although she doesn't stick as close as she should. Today she totaly ignored Howard and went straight over to the examiner, he did manage to get her back in an off lead heel but it was simply not good enough. The other Dog who failed is a Patterdale , another tricky breed.
I was pleased when the examiner aknowledged how well we had done with her considering her Basenjiness, lol

Re: Malaika

Wow her world at dog training is made up mostly of Gundogs....... I know a patterdale and I agree a total terrier in their behaviour, similar type of issues I imagine as Elaine has with Rayne. They are clever dogs.
Sorry you did not get the Goldbut the whole process is meant to socialise the dogs and owners....and you can try again. I never bothered with the Gold for Sal, we got silver bronze quite quickly. I do sometimes consider i just because and to rasie SBT profile but too lazy.

Congratulations.

Re: Malaika

thanks everyone for your comments. Yes Karen most of the dogs are gundogs, the trainer breeds and shows flatcoats.
I'm sure Malaika and Coco failed because they weren't Black
It's a pity she can't just re take the assessment without repeating the classes because she could pass.
However both dogs are booked onto new courses in Jan.
It would be great to get Gold with Sal but Bronze and Silver are great too and must surely help raise the profile.

Re: Malaika

Which training class do you go to Shelley?
I've struggled to find one in Preston that I can attend!
