I would love to think they've woken up but I'll not be holding my breath just yet! Those puppy farms in Wales make my blood boil

Re: Maybe the RSPCA has woken up?

I dont quite understand the title of this thread tbh, the RSPCA and the SSPCA have been trying for years to stop puppy farms. I understand that some have had negative experiences with these organisations but as far as the puppy farms go, the RSPCA and SSPCA have thier hands tied when trying to gain access to these places.
It's the local Authorities who licence these places that need to WAKE up and STOP issuing them with bloody licences!!!

Re: Maybe the RSPCA has woken up?

Sorry Elaine - I thought that the RSPCA was taking some stick from various quarters at just not being proactive enough. I do know that they don't have power to break in and search like the animal welfare organisations in USA do. Maybe they ought to have more power in the animals' interests.

Re: Maybe the RSPCA has woken up?

They do take alot of stick, not all of it is just though imo. There are flaws in all animal rescue/welfare organisations.
I remember hearing of a case up here whereby the local authority were blaming the sspca for not doing enough when a puppy farm owner disapeared, abandoning most of the adult gsd's, managed to take the pups though, but it was the local authority who had recently renewed their licence. It was said that the local dog warden used to lend her dog for stud, I can only assume that if that were indeed true then some money would have been exchanged also.
The SSPCA and RSPCA do not have the powers that many believe they have.

Re: Maybe the RSPCA has woken up?

there was a puppy farm close to me that we were trying to get shut down, im not too sure what the outcome was.

my mum got ty from there, when i went down to see him he had a pot belly as they'd fed him adult food and given my mum a bag of it away to feed him on! he had a normalish stool that night but then he had the runs, the day after that there was blood in it and we had to take him to the emergency vet! (it was the 2nd of jan!!) poor wee guy!
