Thought we'd lost Violet the goat...

and she isn't out of the woods yet.
She looked a bit quiet on Sunday but I thought she had maybe got a chill with the cold weather and so put another rug on her.
On Monday morning she looked terrible breathing really heavily and looking very ill. I called the vet out and she had pneumonia- he didn't give us too much hope but pumped her full of drugs and left. I had to call another vet out in the evening because she went downhill again, and again she was pumped full of drugs. I checked her through the night, expecting to find her gone each time, but she was still with us in the morning and eating a little. I had to give her a load more injections at 5 and it was awful because she yelled and started panting ( i thought I killed her). She is fine again now, but it will be another worrying night in case she doesn't make it, I hope she is over the worst but she is very old scrawny girl so the odds are against her.

Poor soul, if it's any comfort one of our old pet ewes had pneumonia last year. She pulled through but sounded really bad for a few weeks with the panting and laboured breathing. OH just kept pumping the AB's in. He says try not to let her lie down too much. (He didn't offer any ideas on how you could stop her though)

Fingers crossed you caught it in time

Re: Thought we'd lost Violet the goat...

Sadly violet was PTS this evening. I called the vet out this afternoon to give the injections after yesterday, and she was even worse. She did settle down again after a while but while Mike was outside putting the horses to bed at 10 this evening she collapsed and we decided it was unfair to put her through any more. She will be sadly missed.
