Winston
It’s been a year since your passing
My most loyal friend
So many things I wish to say
On this anniversary, a very special day
Its was around this date, 22 years ago
That I fell in love with you and Mutley, your bro’
2 flea bitten kittens, playful and fun
We had cake on your birthday
When you were both one
As the years passed, my handsome young lad
We lost dear Mutley which was very sad
You were always so calm, dashing and wise
You took everything in your stride
And we celebrated your turning 5
I guess as I watched you grow
You watched me in turn
And understood completely
When I took Woody in
You were patient and kind
And allowed Woody time
Good friends you became
As his confidence he did find
Woody never was a lap cat
That space was for you
Do you remember the time?
Woody poo’d in my shoe?
The years then flew by, and you are now 10
Not once did you frown on my bad choice of men
Patient and kind as always my boy
I love you always
You gave me so much joy
I remember all the summers
At the back door you’d sit
Quietly watching, so handsome and neat
Soaking up the sunshine
You always did like the heat
Not once did you roam
Or wander away
You loved your home comforts
And that’s where you’d stay
You were very special
Humble and wise
I’ll never forget
Those pretty green eyes
At the age of 18
You were the picture of health
You could still climb that wardrobe
With precision and stealth
I’m not going to talk
Of the sadness and pain
Of that dreaded day
When your diagnosis came
Those days of your life
Were a very small part
And I always loved you
With all of my heart
Your life was a good one
We shared oh so much
At the ripe old age of 21
You were released from my clutch.
And so my darling Winston
So handsome and wise
I know you’re still with me
Just under a different guise
Our bond was so strong
Our love everlasting
We’ll meet again one day
Together we belong
