Poor Greece

What a terrible year it has been for fires in Greece (and other southern Mediterranean countries). 41 people dead in The Polepponese, most of them killed in their cars as they tried to outrun the fires.

If you've been you can imagine the cars and mopeds going up into the hills and grabbing the old folk (and it will mostly be the old folk) who still live there.
Awful
Maybe UK Summer 07 has not been so bad after all.

Re: Poor Greece

That must be horrific for the Greeks.. I love Greece and travel there a lot but more too the Islands rather than mainland, in fact I'm hoping to go in September to Crete.

Yes our summer has not been too bad when you consider the problems other people are experiencing.

Re: Poor Greece

Very tragic. There are land developers who start these fires intentionally. So very sad for the people of Greece.

Re: Poor Greece

My thoughts are with the people who live there. A work colleague of mine was told to leave their hotel and sleep on the beach one night - scary x

Re: Poor Greece

Such beautiful places devastated by fires, homes lost, lives lost, the wildlife etc. Everything gone.
