View Full Version : What job.....
.........do you or did you do?
I am a registered nurse, I think that's why I find it so easy to talk to strangers..... I specialized in general practice but I have also worked with the elderly in hospital, did a stint on a stroke unit and did a year at a boarding school working with children.
I left school and worked as a shorthand Typist for years, then I fot married, and stayed home to bring up my kids....Boring really..I have been involved in dogs rescues, if you can call that work, first staffie rescue, now boxers..
That's a very worthwhile job PK.....and all your experience stays with you.
I worked in an accounts office in a print and packaging company.
I Don't think I would ever return to nursing now. I have a lot of experience and courses under my belt but I feel nursing these days is all about nursing computers and protecting your legal stance than it is actually looking after people :? All your decsions are based on how do I stand legally? It's not the profession I went into 20 years ago :(

i loved it till one of my last jobs involved a caravan being parked in the middle of a field in the middle of nowhere. That was one of the worst jobs ever, trying to catch sheep in the dark in a field and peeing with rain with mud upto your neck
My kind of thing..I would love to do something like that...

i enjoyed it and almost went back to it a few years ago. We went to a show and met Lord Falmoth who asked me to go work fulltime(hadnt seen him for about 7 years but he hadnt forgotton me ),own cottage, car very good pay.Nearly went but my hubby would of found it quite hard getting a job and was worried my son would feell isolated as this is down the far end of Cornwall.I grew up in Cornwall so know what its like ,i actually love it but think Chris would of found it hard

What an interesting job to do Sam.....and all that fresh air. Makes my job seem so dull especially as I did it for what appears like zillions of years

its a lovely job but i was always working nights on my own as i was very experienced. However when its peeing with rain or blowing a blizzard it did get teadious which is why i ended up giving up.I was on nights for 18 months constant as was so tired and drained, also i was a lot younger then and it did nothing for socialising.
I still keep my hand in as somtimes my vets will give me a shout and i help them.a friend of ours also has sheep and has given me a shout on numerous occations. The only thing i wont do anymore is cutting the dead ones out as you have to be so carefull and i dont do enough anymore.
That's the trouble with that kind of job..you have to take the weather with it

I sit in the office at the danish cable tv company. Really boring, and I'm trying to find something else... Not easy....
Hi Jeanette....good to hear from you again.
Did you manage to sort out Oliver's problem with Luna's basket?
What kind of job would you like to do next?
Jeanette

Hiya Mags
Yeah I'm sorry I've been away so long. I really need to have a few more hours in the day:)
Yes I moved Oliver's litterbox inside and that helped... And Luna didnt even go in the litterbox.. Eventhough it was placed on the floor... Good girl.
So my theory is. Oliver simply thinks the balcony is too cold in the winter season. I've put the litterbox back out about a few weeks ago, when it started getting warmer and still no problem.
Uhm I dont know what I want. Just something where I dont just sit in front of a computerscreen for 8 hours doing the same boring thing day in and day out.
I've applied for a job as a stock assistant for a clothes company. Still waiting to hear from them.
I've gotten my drivers license while I've been away, so that should help a bit too.. :)
Thank you for remembering me, even though its been so long
Hi Oliver's mum, just realised you are luna's mum, hi i am Moli on dw....
Congratulations on passing your driving test OM.......you'll be able to get around a lot more now.
I'm pleased to hear you got Oliver sorted out......they just don't like the cold weather do they!

Congrats on passing your driving test OM

rofl. Poor Cassie.
I love my Oliver I really do, but boy he's a pain in the morning in the weekends or holidays.. He miaus a lot. Before I got Luna I just sort of answered him and eventually got back to sleep.
But now he wakes up Luna and there's nothing I can do but get up and take her out... We are talking 6.30 am here guys!!!
very unsociable animals you have OM.
Walkies at 6.30?? Hmmmm.....not for me
my lot don't move till at least 9am, mollie hates getting out of bed....
Lazy lump.....I knew she would suit me Moli :-D
but then..she will hasstle you till you walk her...
......that's ok...as long as it's at a respectable hour!
She has had a bad couple of day's...yesterday she wouldn't go for a walk with my son, think her hips were sore..she had been for a walk today, but is quieter than normal...
Is she on regular medication Moli? Also does the hot weather affect her?
She is on a supplement and cod liver oil, I only give her pain killers when she needs them, the hot weather normally doesn't usually bother her....If she get too warm I put a cold towel over her it cools her down...
Awww....I hope she feels better soon....give her a hug from me Moli..
She always bounces back....
Does she play a lot with Tara and Gypsy?
Mollie prefers to play with a toy with me or on her own....Gypsy never played, prefering to sit and chew a bone etc, since getting tara gpsy now plays, she is a different dog..Mollie will play now and then, but not often....She is very much a people dog, prefering to play with one of us...She knows just how much she can do...
I've often wondered how much different breeds mix....for example would a staffie play with another staffie rather than, say a boxer? Do they recognise their own breed or is a dog a dog to them? Do you know what I'm trying to say?
I didn't think it made a difference what breed a dog was, they would play together..But Gypsy prefers to play with Tara, they play really rough, all teeth and snarling....I used to walk with lorraine and her four boxers, Gypsy would have nothing to do with them(Before Tara joined us)..So maybe gyp needed another staffie...
That's strange isn't it? There must be lots going on in their little heads that we don't know about...
Too much Mags, dogs are very intelligent, more so than people give them credit for...My three can read my body lanuage like a book, they know what I am going to do before I do sometimes :?
Have you noticed Mags..It always seems to be the two of us on here,!
I know...weird isn't it. Where's PK gone.....and where's Sam? I expect Abbi is busy training trying to get into her bikini.....oh well, it's a leisurely pace!! :-D
At this time of night all I am fit for is sitting in front of the computer!!!
....me too, with a nice cuppa!
We are really begining to sound like two oldies :( :DCan you remember when the wooden tops were on tv? I can't remember the year..
I've reserved mine! http://www.cosgan.de/images/smilie/muede/s020.gif
This is how I will end up.. http://www.cosgan.de/images/midi/haushalt/h015.gif
   what a pair we are :-D
I used to knit a lot when the kids were small....Don't now though,
 me too! Nobody seems to wear handknitted stuff now do they?
Its considered old fashioned!!!
I leave you two alone for more than half an hour and you start to talk like a couple of older ladies in a nursing home

I have always worked for Guide Dogs since I left school.
I love it & wouldn't want to do anything else. I supervise the breeding bitches on the breeding programme. 8)
I would love your job Smudgley

I love it & think myself very lucky that I enjoy my work so much. It can be quite stressful at times & sometimes having to work over - this week has been a really bad week for example & on Thurs I spent the day at the vets whilst one of mine had a C/S - trying to revive pups. Home at 9pm. Then spent Fri evening fostering some pups onto another bitch. Home at 10pm. Then in work at 7am on sat & worked til 4pm.
But it's all worth it & my husband is very understanding & I have the nicest boss in the world too!
Its sounds a lot of work smudgley..but you obviously enjoy it, don't you foster cats too?
You have an extremely busy life Smudgley but it sounds so interesting...

Yes - Guide Dogs is what I do full time & Cats protection fostering is what I do in my spare time as well as microchipping & looking after my family & my animals. This week has just been a bit hectic - I usually finish at 4pm but the nature of the job means I often work over & I'm on call 24/7 for whelpings. But it's a small price to pay as I love it so much. I couldn't do all of what I do without my husband - he is really good & we share all the household jobs etc (well kind of share - he gets the bigger share :-D )
But soon I am taking a lot of time off as we are expecting puppies too!
Do you mean to tell us you get SPARE time
Nice to see you've got your husband well trained too :-D
Good luck with your expected litter too!
