View Full Version : E-BAY - BEWARE!
I am soooo :x I sold a brand new phone on e-bay at the weekend, the person paid via Paypal, which is mean to be one of the safest ways for payment! I sent the phone to her yesterday via Special Delivery, and when I got home last night and checked my e-mails I had one from Paypal saying that she has not got sufficient funds in her account!!!
How could people do that?? So I am now £120 out of pocket and no phone - not in the best of moods today! :x :x :x
Oh Abbi that is awful! I don't know anything about E-Bay but is there anything you can do about it. Have you written to her address?
I have sent her an e-mail giving her 24 hours to send the money otherwise I will report her to the police!
Good for you - that should give her something to think about
My hubby sold new phones on e bay, someone wanted to pay him by paypal..but he wouldn't sell the phone to him,, seemingly there is a scam going on..sorry you were caught by it abbi.....
There is definately a scam, I thought paypal was really safe - how wrong was I!!!
I have used paypal to pay for goods but I have never accepted payment from paypal I ask for cheque or PO. You never know, the person who bought it may come good and send you the money. Keep your chin up Abbi :-) Have you reported it to Ebay?
I have reported it to Paypal and will do the same this evening when I get home to e-bay!

I use ebay all the time and have brought and sold many items, however i will not except paypal. This aint ebays fault however report the buyer to them and if they have done this before they will be banned.I never let items go before payment has cleared. There are way to many overseas buyers/sellers on ebay now
Abbi - any news on the phone yet??
Nah Mags, I got an e-mail last night saying that they are investigating the matter - it's very frustrating because you can't actually sepak to a person, it's all done via e-mail - no money come through so it was a total scam!
Ooh Abi I am so sorry, you must be furious. :smt021 There must be something that can be done to catch the scammer, ebay must have some contact details for him/her????
Awww I'm sorry Abs :(
As PK said, I would have thought ebay had some details of the person as there must me quite a lot of people who try that on as it seems so easy.
Don't give up hope yet

tehy aint allowed to give details due to data protection. These people do this on purpose and theres nothing that can be done
It needs reporting to the police as it is fraud and the police would be allowed to get their details from ebay
Surely someone should be able to put a stop to it :smt102
Still not heard anything and I contact somebody else who she purchased something from and they have the same problem!
Oh dear, it's not looking good really if the same has happened to someone else. Have you considered contacting the police, Abbi and seeing if they can do anything?

Abbi if she has done it to someone else contact ebay and put in a complaint. They will ban this person.I had the oppersit problem with a seller.I bought something and paid by check. He cash check and then reported me to ebay saying i hadnt payed. He then kept sending threatning emails and i had to put a bar on them to stop receiving them. Finally ebay sorted it and by all accounts he did this a lot, didnt make me feel good at the time when some of his emails were very scarey

wow some ppl as just sad
Abbi can you not bar the phone so it does not work? it happend to a friend of mine and she got in touch with the phone company and the barred the phone not the sim card and the was worthless so they lost out as well
That's a good idea Bobbie.
E-bay and Paypal are onto it - they have suspended her account, they phone was unlocked for any network and without a sim, so there is no way of blocking it - still no news apart from the other people she bought from have had the same problem!
Keep us updated, Abbi. You never know between them ebay/Paypal may be able to sort this out for you. Fingers crossed.......
I really hope so - somebody here said that I am covered for loss of up to £120 - so I hope to be able to recover it!
Will keep you posted!
I hope it gets sorted out for you Abbi.
Well paypal e-mailed me Friday night saying that the money is lost, so I am going to tr yand claim via e-bay - i dont hold out much hope!

What about the police because at the end of the day this person has committed Fraud and theft.Buying something knowing you dont have the money to cover is an offence and its not the first time from the sounds of things
The police might be worth a try Abbi.
Good luck Abbi, like the others have said perhaps you should consider reporting this to the police, after all it is a crime. Keep us updated as to how you get on. Fingers crossed for you
