Last summer Tim was tiny so not a issue with open windows & hot weather/fresh air. Now both of them are much bigger & inquisitive - how do you ensure your cats are safe indoors yet still get fresh air in tbe house?

Hmmmm... My problem is more keeping air out! Right now it's blowing a gale, and said wind is blowing freely round the living room, cause there's a fan direct to the outside to make sure that the oxygen level is kept up while the CH is on... Horrible annoying thing!

Can't say I've had the experience of cats and open windows either... Can you have them open only a tiny bit on catches and the like?

Window screens. What sort of windows do you have? Double hung are very common in housing here, screens readily available, and actually a necessity to keep out flies, mosquitoes, moths, etc even in catless houses!

The catches on our windows allow us to only open them a tiny bit so that's fine. Window screens are the other option I think.

I've always wondered about window screens - because they would be ideal for keeping insects out - once they are fitted, how do you open your windows???

I have these on the windows.

You fix them to the frame with velcro, so just pull on and off, simples!!

The window has to be open when the screen is in. You can't partially close it, it's either open or closed.

"Because they open up instead of out, double-hung windows don't take up exterior space when open. Double-hung windows feature an upper and lower sash which slide vertically past each other in a single frame."

About Adjustable Window Screens

Adjustable Window Screens come in several sizes to fit most window styles. The screen height is fixed and the width of the screen is expandable. They are easy to install and remove in seconds without the need for tools or fasteners. Simply open the window, place the adjustable window screen in place and expand it into the sides of the window sill, then close the window on top of the screen to keep the bugs away. These adjustable window screens are made with standard frame and charcoal fiberglass insect screen. Comes completely assembled, so all you do is place in the window opening and adjust the width to fit your window.

Thanks folks - just got me thinking yesterday how will we cope in the warmer weather - the screens seem to be the thing to have

We have mostly PVC windows and they dont have "latches" as such - mores the pity. I wil look into getting the screens - thanks Dawn for the link

So many things running through my head like an extension run running directly from the house to the garden for the kitts but I cant do anything in that way until we see if Tim can tolerate his vaccs or not

I have my windows open with a small gap and the catch on so they can't push it open and I have a fan or 2 on aswell.

I also have house cats one of which is adept at sniffing out an open window and jumping straight out of it, although thankfully, so far the top window he just sat sideways on the top window sill, much to my alarm when I found him! I tend to leave the window on the ventilate setting and also use fans in the house. I have windows open fully in rooms that the doors remain shut so the pussy s cant get in ! Its difficult to be sure in a heatwave! Jan x:cool:
