I mentioned that I had been up Mount Etna during last Wednesday's Quiz in response to Eileen's question about the world's highest volcano.

Here are some photos - this was in February 2001 before the last big eruption. I am sorry I couldn't find any photos of all the little animal tracks in the snow. It was one of the loveliest areas I have been to. Lower down the volcano, the snow was thigh-deep.

Beautiful pics.
February must be an unusual time of year to visit - I must confess I always think of the Etna summit as arid and bare and had never considered it snow-capped.

Thanks for sharing. What beautiful scenery. Have to say I was with the barren view as well. It does look cold though.

Great pics! I too thought of it as barren and windswept, didn't realize it got such a snow cover.

I was trying to remember the elevation, which is all changed now of course. It was a Ramblers' holiday with some hard walking, although it was a medium category. I did not manage it all, but it was a great holiday and I would recommend it to anyone. Particularly good for people on their own. Maybe it was just a very easy, good natured group. I went with a friend who has since passed away and the holiday does have a special place in my memory.

Beautiful pictures Angie and not at all what I'd expected. Obviously warm memories of a lovely holiday too.
