My MIL got upset this morning - her budgie Polly died. She wasn't well when my OH took MIL's cup of tea in first thing and we were going to take her to the vet, but by the time we had had our breakfast, the little bird was dead. We think she must have died of old age as she was over 12 years old! MY OH had bought two budgies to keep his mother company after her husband died as she was then living on her own and she brought the surviving budgie to stay when she moved in with us just over two and a half years ago.
Fly free Polly - RIP.

How sad. Was that a good age for a budgie? RIP, little Polly ......

I think it was a very good age for a budgie Eileen. I am no expert, but it seems to me that they either last about 3 years or they go on for around 12. When I was a small child, my mother had 2 budgies, one (the friendly nice budgie) died around age 3 and the grumpy grouchy one lasted until 12. I have to say that Polly was a budgie of the grumpy sort, but she did chirrup and sing especially when the birds outside did.
Thanks everyone. I will tell MIL that you have sent your respects.

My Mom's budgie, Captain Flint (weird name) was the grumpy sort; think he must have been about twelve. Bit everyone but her! Rather touching, he passed away a short time after Mom died......
