Get an electric shock of their cat or is it just me???

I occasionally get a shock when I stroke Denis (near his belly). I get shocks of things such as my car door and other people and it may be me not Denis. I was just wondering:roll:

I felt awful the other day when I gave Merlin a shock - I'd been using the pc and went to stroke him! It's static electricity I think and I must try to remember to "ground" it before touching him. I've done the same to my OH before now.

I have a faux fur throw on my soffa for the dog and that generates lots of shocks.

It is static electricity; happens all the time to me in the Winter with the dry indoor air and central heating! I hate it, so does Leia!

I've never gotten a crackle sound, but the fur standing on end bit happens now and then when the air is very dry and the static electricity is I guess you would say high....

I often get static by brushing my own hair (let alone poor Merlin's) and I can use the brush like a magnet and get my hair to almost stand up straight. It's strange because the brush is real bristle and has a wooden handle so I really don't understand how this works. Any electricians out there?

Dandysmom is right about the dry air caused by central heating - it is always worse in the winter.

The late Parsley was like that-in case of a power cut just comb him and the room lit up-never seemed to bother him though

I have never been any good at physics - in fact, the secondary school I went to didn't actually have physics on their curriculum - we had something called General Science, which consisted of biology (we had a brilliant biology teacher); chemistry - you only had to be able to draw aperatus, and physics - only one question needed to be answered in the "O" level exam.

Anyway, I digress! Found this website that explains static electricity - enjoy!!!  :o :o :D

Thanks for that link! Now I get it...makes sense when explained :D

We didn't have physics in secondary school either: biology which I adored and chemistry...ugh, the less said the better...:-D

I went up to Uni to do Chemistry-changed courses and ended up with a PhD in Psycholgy-still can`t understand people but am geting my head around cats

That's interesting Angie, thanks for the link :D

I did Physics at school but could never understand it ........I gave it up as soon as I could and chose Chemistry..:D

Me too! I did Zoology and Botany at "A" level.
