View Full Version : My trip round Loch Muik Yesterday

Loch Muik is part of the Balmoral estate. The big house at the edge of the Loch was once a retreat for Queen Victoria and Albert. There is a well kept Bothy at the back of the house for the use of hillwalkers and mountaineers. It's an eight mile walk around the Loch, personally I think its very scenic and atmospheric.
The weather was very mixed with strong winds, some hail and sunshine. All in all we had a super day and i was so tired last night that I flaked out in bed by 9pm last night.

I'll bore you all to death with the piccies every time we venture out:lol:
With the exception of Pat and Liz, if you lot cannt get up to Scotland, then Scotland will come to you:lol:

Oh they're gorgeous pics Elaine. Making me a wee bit homesick!! I love the area all around Balmoral and such. Used to do the drive up the Glenshee pass a lot when we would come back from Glasgow to Aberdeen.

What a beautiful, evocative place! I once spent a long weekend on the Black Isle and drove round Loch Ness and a couple of other Lochs (this was 20 years ago  ) and I count it amongst one of my favourite places visited.

Lucky you having that on your doorstep - I hope the walk did the trick with blowing some of the stress away for you. :D

Whats a well stocked Bothy? x

A Bothy is a place for hillwalkers/moutaineers to take shelter. Normally people leave things of good use behind such as fire lighters, cooking oil, candles, matches etc.

Thanks for the pics Elaine - what beautiful country. Looks a lot further than 8 miles around the Loch. I have not explored much of Scotland, apart from staying at St Andrews when a friend of mine was up at uni there and a Christmas at Applecross - saw a golden eagle there!

Good luck for the walk in April - I have sponsored you! Look forward to seeing you and Erin in your cat costumes!

I think I've been there Elaine. Is there a hotel called something like (excuse ridiculous spelling) The MuickRack? If so, I've def. been there

Ooooh now that looks lovely but you'd need to treck across the caingorms to get to Loch Muik from there.
