Poor Darius was brought to us stray on thursday evening, he was such a state, a mass of tats, fleas, lice, ticks and himself a bag of bones, he had obviously been stray for many months. Despite his bad condition he was a loving lad and talked and talked to you while enjoying ear tickles. He had to have a GA to sort him out and we discovered he was a fairly elderly gentleman judging by his teeth and he was also hyperthyroid. We needed to get him srable and a better weight before we could undergo that surgery so we woke him up and he was going to recuperate for a few days in hospital before coming with me to gain condition and get his meds before surgery. I was really looking forward to fostering this gorgeous lad, the NFC rescue stated he may have been one of the first of the breed bred in the UK if he was as old as the 10 years we estimated.

Sadly Darius passed away for no apparent reason early this morning, we were all shocked by this as his bloods were all normal and he appeared 'healthy' apart from his known conditions. I'm sad this lad had to end his days in a veterinary hospital but I'm glad he was clean, comfortable, well fed and loved in his last few days on this earth.
Run free Darius x

What a sad story, Vicki! But at least he was warm and fed; he didn't die alone in the cold. RIP, Darius. And, what is a NFC: not familiar with the breed...?

Ah sorry to hear this Vicki, this wasn't the same NFC that Emma posted about asking for an adoptive or foster home was it? RIP Darius. :(

So sorry to hear this. Maybe he was just waiting for 'somewhere to lay his head' before he called it a day (so to speak). I'm glad at least that he died knowing kindness. RIP.
